We asked the registry pros at Macy’s to share the hottest trends in wedding registries. From china to flatware to kitchen gadgets and more, they shared what’s new and what’s next. Plus, find out their prediction for the top (and unexpected) registry item for 2013!
What types of patterns, colors, and styles will be popular for china this year?
Gold is definitely making a comeback! We also think that couples will gravitate toward patterns that are pre-mixed and matched, but we’re seeing modern white dinnerware gaining popularity, as well. Vintage styles, like the Edie Rose by Rachel Bilson collection shown below, are big right now, too.

What about flatware? Is there a set that you think will be popular this year?
No big trends here. Our most popular products are the ‘tried and true’ patterns that can be dressed up for formal dinners but also dressed down and appropriate for weekend breakfast – the Oneida Moda shown here is a good example. Quality is key – we recommend going for 18/10 stainless steel to ensure your forks, spoons and knives keep their shine and strength.

In the world of cookware and kitchen accessories, are there any new tools or electronics that you think couples will be clamoring for this year?
Couples are really into healthy living, so we’re thinking juicers and blenders (like the powerful Ninja!) will be must-haves. Plus, the KitchenAid Stand Mixer is a perennial favorite.

How about bedding? What styles are in for 2013?
Somewhat contradictory of each other, we’re seeing many couples gravitate toward white bedding, while others are loving bold, structural, and architectural designs (like the Bar III bedding shown below). Neo-contemporary and natural (not traditional and not modern) designs are always popular, too.

What about giftware? Are there any new pieces that are essentials this year?
Couples still love the double-invitation frames, as well as the “faux-personalized” items from Kate Spade New York Darling Point collection – like this “Mr. and Mrs.” cake serving set.

What are some things that couples forget to register for that you think are must-haves?
Kitchen gadgets and home organization items like hampers, ironing boards, and storage bins.
Are there any other registry items that you think will be hot for 2013?
Decorative pillows! We see a lot of bedding come with a beautiful array of decorative pillows. Also, serveware – more and more people are entertaining at home, so more serveware options in ceramic, wood, metals, or a combination of these are trending as well.
