There is something to be said for including vows that have been spoken by generations before us into your wedding ceremony. But for some people, the thought of writing personal vows is not as daunting of a task as it may seem to others and truly love the idea of speaking from the heart.

Traditionally, the declaration of wedding vows symbolizes the act of two people coming together as married. This moment is the heart of the ceremony-when you commit to each other forever. If you are writing your own vows, think about why you are marrying each other, what you love about this person and try to express that with words. This is the tough part for a lot of people! Some do not want to be completelty traditional, but also do not want to start from scratch. If you can relate, think about simply re-working the traditional vows to be more appropriate for the two of you. Maybe you don’t want the word “obey” in your vows, so just change a few words here and there to make it your own!

Are you using traditional wedding vows or are you writing your own?
