We hope everyone had a happy Fourth of July and enjoyed the holiday weekend! This week on the blog, we’re talking summer wedding food! We’ve broken down the menu and rounded up some of our favorite seasonal fare for each category. Let’s start off with some delicious summer wedding appetizers!
Shrimp Cocktail – we love the idea of serving shrimp in chilled shot glasses with a bit of cocktail sauce!
Summer Salad – mix seasonal fruits like peaches, plums, melons and berries with fresh greens for a light, tasty starter.
Oysters – fresh raw oysters chilled over ice make a perfect seaside wedding hors d’oeuvre.
Sliders – hold guests over with bite-sized versions of this summertime classic.

“Josephine and Erick are a soft-spoken couple, who reside outside of San Francisco. They are the proud parents of Bodie; probably the cutest French bulldog/ring bearer ever. Their wedding was held at their own home overlooking the hills of Santa Cruz. With the help of their coordinator, Yelena Johnson, they transformed their home into the elegant venue that it became on their wedding day. Guests were seated at two 24 foot dinner tables, and during dinner, they were pleasantly entertained by a slideshow movie of the bride and groom while feasting on local cuisine and wines.
The bride and groom chose to host their wedding at their home because their wedding day wasn’t just about celebrating their own marriage but also about celebrating friends and family. And they couldn’t think of a better way to do that than to welcome them into their home. Not just welcoming physically but welcoming them into the union of their life. Of course, having the wedding at home meant their French bulldog Bodie and his sister Bella could join too!
Everyone dined underneath the stars, and they ran in and out in between courses, crowding the kitchen island bar for celebratory toasts. They danced the night away in the dining room while overlooking the bay from the terrace.” — Jaime Viera, Viera Photography
From the Photographer: “Rachel and Justin were planning an elaborate destination wedding when they realized that it just didn’t suite them or their personalities. So they scrapped the plan and decided to hold the event at their home in Los Angeles. Just because they held their wedding in their home, didn’t stop them from having a full guest list – about 100 people in all. In the end, they had the perfect wedding that was unique because it was true to who they are as a couple.” –Viera Photographics
From the Photographer: “Salina and Travis’ theme was “more fun than fancy.” They really wanted to have a a fun but intimate outdoor event for their friends and family. They picked Rancho Del Cielo because of its amazing view! The venue is one of our favorites to shoot at. The old California Rancho house on the property has an upstairs for the girls to get ready (and peak out at the guests arriving). The ceremony space is on a bluff overlooking the Channel Islands, Santa Catalina and the Palos Verdes Hills. The reception area and gardens are filled with Roses, Jasmine and Lavender. There is a huge dance area, little romantic corners, an outdoor fire place and a crazy beautiful view of the sunset. Their colors were grey and yellow, Salina and Travis really wanted to keep their theme “more fun than fancy” through everything. The invites were DIY, they used their engagement photos for the programs. The wedding guest book was a mini Polaroid camera for people to include photos of themselves next to their wedding wishes. The centerpieces were photos of the bride and groom through the years – they had 11 tables, so each number had photos of them at that age.” – Viera Photographics
