Q & A with the Bride:

1. What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?

The beautiful white conservatory and garden felt like a quaint English fairytale, but it was conveniently located and less than ten minutes from the ceremony. I always wanted an outdoor wedding, but with the comfort of having an inside location available. Our venue had a great flow to it. It was a blank canvas with all the right makings. I did not want everyone to be forced to sit at a table all night, and this was the perfect place to get people moving into different areas.

2. Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?

It took a lot of time to make many of the details for our wedding, but my absolute favorite was the peg dolls I painted to match each of the members of our wedding party. Each one had the corresponding suit or dress and accessories they would wear that day. The photo booth was also DIY. My father-in- law made the background from paper decorations from a party store, and I hand painted the sign and bought mostly pink props. Each of the table name cards were painted off of ideas from the Mexican loteria game. Each one represented something important to us and our love. The traditional card “La Mano” (The Hand) is a hand straight up, while I painted the hand in the sign language form of love.

3. Give us the one moment from your wedding that you can’t stop thinking about.

I’ll have to defer to my husband for this one – the food. I know everyone says the food at weddings is usually bad or cold by the time you get it, but ours was so good. I am only upset we did not get to eat more of it. For most people it would seem strange, but my family is Argentine and roasting a pig is normal for us. I labored so much over what food to have at the wedding and what would make everyone the happiest, and then I just decided to stop trying to be fancy and go with something we would want to eat for dinner. I chose a local shop called Manena’s, and had empanadas, roasted pork, rice, salad and some other goodies. We got a great price and everyone loved it!

Searching for a wedding venue is all about finding a spot that matches your personality and style. We’ve interviewed hundreds of brides over the years about how they found their wedding sites, and wanted to share a few of them with you to provide some inspiration as you begin your venue hunt.

We chose to have our wedding and reception at my parents’ home because of the beautiful backdrop and landscape that was already present. We wanted an intimate setting with all our close family and friends , so it was absolutely perfect,” -Ashlie, married May 19 in her parents’ backyard in Tennessee. View more photos from this wedding

Q & A with the Bride:

1. What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?

Our whole intent was to throw a party for our friends that was distinctly Austin. The Long Center City Terrace was perfect because the backdrop was just that, the Austin skyline. It made for great dramatic pictures. Similarly, French Legation is within walking distance of all of our favorite haunts, and it is Austin’s oldest home. Both spots met our goals perfectly.

2. Which six details from your wedding were your favorites?

1. How colorful all of our guests looked in their feathers and bow ties.
2. The spray-painted succulent arrangements done by Erin at Rosehip Flora.
3. The giant tapestry picnic blanket with tapestries sent from India by Jeremy’s dad.
4. The custom-backdrop for our photobooth designed by Nate Nordstrom.
5. That Jeremy designed our gig posters that we gave out as party favors.
6. The fact that so many of our vendors are great friends of ours.

3. If you could offer one piece of advice for other couples planning their wedding, what would it be?

Oh that’s a tough one – but I think I’ll go with EAT! I regret that I didn’t take a couple minutes to enjoy some of the food that I so painstakingly chose!

4. Give us the one moment from your wedding that you cannot stop thinking about.

The dance party at the end with the LCD Soundsystem tribute band All My Friends. We had our childhood best friends, our adult best friends, our families and everyone in between in a full-fledged concert-like dance party singing along to LCD Soundsystem tunes at the top of our lungs. It was even better than I could have ever imagined.

Q & A with the Bride:

What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?

When we first toured, they were still renovating the property. We loved the vision shared of what Olde Dobbin Station would eventually look like and felt that it was a perfect fit for the vintage/homemade wedding we wanted. I especially loved the brick columns, chandeliers, windows, and the door.

Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?

This is hard to answer. I feel that everything was my favorite. I loved my dress and would wear it every day if that was an option. I loved the string quartet. It was fun picking out classical and contemporary songs for the playlist. I also loved our food, both the beautiful cakes and the breakfast dinner. We often made breakfast for dinner while dating, and felt it was a meaningful and fun dinner choice.

Give us the one moment in your wedding day you can’t stop thinking about.

I loved our First Look. Our photographer Kimberly did a wonderful job capturing our time together before the ceremony. It allowed us to connect, to pray together, and to calm our excited/anxious hearts before the wedding started.
