If you’re getting married in the summer you’ve probably heard this mantra when it comes to choosing your gown: Pick a lightweight style so you’ll stay comfortable in the heat. We wholeheartedly agree with this premise, however, that doesn’t mean that you have to wear a dress that’s fit for the beach (although it’s certainly appropriate!); there are lots of gown styles that are summery and airy, whether you’re looking for something grand, romantic, or modern.

Beachy: Flowy, Grecian-inspired styles like this gown by David’s Bridal are perfect for beach weddings. A bit of sparkle is also appropriate, but don’t go overboard with the heavy beading.
Classic: If you’re hosting a formal wedding in the summertime, by all means wear a classic ballgown or A-line style, like this Amsale creation. Just choose a fabric that’s relatively lightweight, like organza or tulle.
Short: Obviously, short wedding dresses are made for summer weddings – we particularly love styles with touches of feminine lace, like this dress by Ivy & Aster. Jazz things up with a fun pair of shoes.
Romantic: Lace and ruffled chiffon wedding dresses are perfect for outdoor weddings in the summertime. This style, by Jenny Lee, has a garden fairy vibe that we just adore.

When you’re shopping for a wedding gown, you obviously should choose a style that fits and flatters your figure, but it’s also so important to think about the season when your wedding will take place. You’re going to be in your gown for the whole day, so you certainly want to feel comfortable and confident. We selected an ideal gown for each season from Allure Bridals and shared some of our top tips for finding a seasonally-appropriate wedding dress.

Spring: We love the look of lace for a spring wedding – it’s so romantic, and the floral motif feels so apropos when everything is in bloom. Allure Couture Style C265 (pictured top, left), features lace throughout, a crystal sash for some added glam, and – 0ur favorite detail – a tiered, ruffled skirt that moves beautifully in the springtime breeze.
Summer: When it’s hot outside, think lightweight fabrics, like chiffon, which will keep you cool and comfortable. Allure Bridals’ Style 9057 (top, right) is ideal for a summer wedding – and we love how versatile it is. It’s ethereal and airy silhouette would look gorgeous at an outdoor wedding on the beach, but it’s sparkly embroidery and beading keeps it formal enough for a ballroom wedding.
Fall: For fall, we often hear the words “rustic” and “natural” when it comes to gowns, but we think that vintage glamour fits the season just as well. Allure Couture’s C264 (bottom, left) features leaf-and-vine-themed beaded embroidery (so ideal!) and a flattering v-neckline. Plus, the English net fabrication keeps this slip dress lightweight enough for those warmer early-fall days.
Winter: Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean you need to wear a gown with sleeves (you can always don a fur wrap for outdoor photos – so chic!). We love how the silvery crystal and pearl beading on Allure Couture’s Style C271 (bottom right) resembles falling snow. And the illusion neckline provides a bit more coverage than a strapless gown.
