Q & A with the Bride:

What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?

When we first toured, they were still renovating the property. We loved the vision shared of what Olde Dobbin Station would eventually look like and felt that it was a perfect fit for the vintage/homemade wedding we wanted. I especially loved the brick columns, chandeliers, windows, and the door.

Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?

This is hard to answer. I feel that everything was my favorite. I loved my dress and would wear it every day if that was an option. I loved the string quartet. It was fun picking out classical and contemporary songs for the playlist. I also loved our food, both the beautiful cakes and the breakfast dinner. We often made breakfast for dinner while dating, and felt it was a meaningful and fun dinner choice.

Give us the one moment in your wedding day you can’t stop thinking about.

I loved our First Look. Our photographer Kimberly did a wonderful job capturing our time together before the ceremony. It allowed us to connect, to pray together, and to calm our excited/anxious hearts before the wedding started.

Q & A with the Bride:

What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?

Jonny grew up spending time at this barn. He had many memories there and had a personal connection with the location. While we were dating, we went fishing there quite often.  I am an art teacher and I loved the rustic aesthetic and was excited to add a touch of delicacy to make the venue our own.

Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?

Jonny and my father built a dock for us to get married on. It was amazing and helped create photographs with such a beautiful background of water. We appeared to be floating!

My Grandma Lampe made jam as our wedding favor. It was canned in glass jelly jars and we labeled them  J+J along with the flavor. We tied lace over the lid using a multi-textures yarn. A perfect touch!

The details & décor. Being a former graphic designer, I loved designing our invitations! In the barn, we strung large bulb Christmas lights throughout the barn. We draped gossamer to coordinate with the lights. We also bought an assortment of glass vases and containers, sprayed them white to appear as milk glass, placed babies breath in them and used this as centerpieces. Under the white glass we laid crème doilies that came from a dollar store! Our many DIY projects made the aesthetics of our wedding day complete!

If you could offer one piece of advice for other couples planning their wedding, what would it be?

Delegate. Do not be afraid to kindly ask for help with projects from the get go. Those that love you and are near you will be more than happy to help. Especially if you are doing a lot of DIY projects like we did…help from family and friends was such a blessing!

Rustic, Relaxed Farm Wedding in Tennessee

Q & A with the Bride:

Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?

1. The beautiful scenery that Legacy Farms provides

2. My flowers and table decorations

3. Our cakes were exactly what I asked for

If you could offer one piece of advice for other couples planning their wedding, what would it be?

As hard as it is, don’t stress over the little things.  Some things are going to happen that will be out of your control and it will benefit you more to just let them go because at the end of the day you are married to the love of your life.

Give us the one moment in your wedding day you cant stop thinking about.

Walking down the aisle.  I was so emotional that I couldn’t hold back the tears and the whole walk I looked into my husband’s eyes.

Romantic and Rustic Wedding in Virginia

Q & A with the Bride:

What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?

Alan and I really love the beautiful landscapes around Charlottesville, and we really wanted to showcase that for all of our out-of-town friends and family. When we pulled into Castle Hill Cider for the first time, we were in love. The beautiful rolling hills, the open fields, the fresh air – we knew that we could not have a single flower or decoration and it would still be beautiful!

Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?

1. The first would have to be the cookie table; my dad’s family has a tradition (as do many other families from the Pittsburgh area) of serving homemade cookies instead of wedding cake. My sister and my wedding planner, Beverly, coordinated and decorated the table. There were thousands of cookies! I think there were maybe 10 left at the end of the night.

2. The jars of homemade jams and jellies my mom made for guest favors. At the last minute we decided we could kill two birds with one stone by using them for escort cards as well.

3. The whiskey bar. Alan and his friends consider themselves amateur whiskey connoisseurs, so the whiskey bar was Alan’s pride and joy – he picked out a selection of types and styles, and everyone loved trying all the different options.

Give us the one moment in your wedding day you can’t stop thinking about.

For our father-daughter dance, my Dad surprised me by singing “My Girl” with the band. It was such a sweet, once-in-a-lifetime moment and I was overjoyed. I don’t think there was a single dry eye!

Q&A with the Bride:

What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?

The spectacular view of the ocean from the ceremony site. There is a small outdoor amphitheater that overlooks the ocean and it was a perfect size and setting for our ceremony. There is also a great indoor/outdoor reception area on site that made it an easy transition into the cocktail hour.

Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?

My bouquet turned out beautifully, the succulents and poppies were my favorite additions to the bouquet. Our table centerpieces were modern succulent planters so they could be enjoyed much longer than a typical floral centerpiece. Lastly, our sweetheart table was cocktail height so we had a great view of all of our guests.

If you could offer one piece of advice for other couples planning their wedding, what would it be?

Work with great vendors. They can make your experience easier and less stressful. It is also a good idea to have a planner there for the day of to keep things organized and on schedule.

Give us the one moment in your wedding day you can’t stop thinking about.

We read our own vows during the ceremony and it added a personal touch that made our day extra special.
