Which details from your wedding were your favorites?

I made sure that all the gift bags were handmade locally, all the contents made in Rhode Island or the USA. We had two bands, the Yvonne Monnett Quintet performed while guests arrived throughout the cocktail hour.  Then we had Travis Colby’s Roomful of Blues members perform at our reception.

I had a cape made by Vivian of Vivian’s Tailoring in North Smithfield, Rhode Island. It was a design I came up with when I saw an Alexander McQueen cape in one of my magazines and inquired about its cost.  It was $17,000, so I commissioned Vivian to create my cape and it was such a lovely addition to my ensemble!

If you could offer one piece of advice for other couples planning their wedding, what would it be?

Just remember it’s one day so keep your wits about you.  Stop and enjoy your day because in all the years I’ve been photographing weddings all I’ve heard is it goes by in a flash and boy it does!

Give us the one moment in your wedding day you can’t stop thinking about.

When I first got downstairs and saw the tent all set up and saw Philip standing at the arbor it was such an unbelievable feeling!  We selected two very meaningful readings “Love” by Roy Croft and “The Art of Marriage” by Wilfred A. Peterson that truly articulated our feelings. It truly was a beautiful wedding!

Bright Seaside Wedding in Newport, Rhode Island

Kathy & Eric

Castle Hill Inn, Newport, Rhode Island

Our Q&A with the Bride:

What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?

I saw a picture on Castle Hill’s website of their ceremony site that was absolutely gorgeous with a beautiful wooden aisle lined with lanterns leading to an arch covered in flowers with the ocean as a backdrop, and I knew immediately I was looking at my wedding venue!  We recreated that look for my wedding day, and it was just exactly everything I had hoped it would be!

Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?

I loved my dress!  It seems a shame that brides only get to wear their beautiful gowns for one day.

I loved my venue!  We could not have found a more beautiful place for our wedding.

Interestingly, the third thing I would mention was the transportation we set up for our guests.  Ours was a destination wedding.  Everyone was staying at a couple hotels a good distance from the wedding/reception venue, and no one was familiar with Newport.  We thought it was incredibly important to make everything as easy as possible for our family and friends, so we provided shuttles from the hotels to the rehearsal dinner and reception and then back to the hotels again.  Our friends and family were able to fully experience the party without having to worry about finding their way in a new city or having some drinks at the reception.  From what I’ve been told, almost everyone stayed until the last shuttle of the night and the shuttle turned into quite a party bus on the ride back to the hotels!  I love that!

Give us the one moment in your wedding day you can’t stop thinking about.

Walking out and seeing my handsome groom waiting for me.  He looked so emotional and caught up in the moment that I couldn’t take my eyes off him the whole way down the aisle.

Alison  + Chase

August 2010

Portsmouth, RI

From the Bride: “Chase and I were introduced by a mutual friend in March of 2006. Chase’s best friend from high school went to college with me and set us up when I moved to NYC from Chicago. Chase and I got engaged at Farmlands, his father’s property in Portsmouth, RI so we knew this would be the perfect place to have our wedding because of the beautiful ground and water views.”

Real Rhode Island Farm Wedding: Lisa + Keith

Lisa + Keith

Rhode Island

Lisa and Keith’s Little Compton, RI wedding is awesome!

“Their family had rented an old farmhouse for the week, which was extremely packed full of people, and made that their base of operations.  There was wedding decorations everywhere and everyone was pitching in when we got there.  It was like a craft store pinata was bashed open in the living room!  The farmhouse was right on the coast and you could see the ocean about a half a mile away.  The scenery was covered with climbing ivy that covered old cars and farm equipment, mounds of blooming flowers, and winding crushed clam shell roads.” -Jagger Photography

Couple of details:

Lisa picked her own flowers the day of the wedding.  She wrapped it in a baby blue ribbon and stuck a tiny fabric windmill into one side.  Each of her bridesmaids had a similar bouquet.  The entire bridal party wore funky cowgirl boots and knee length dresses.  Lisa’s dress was a stunning knee length, sweetheart dress which she accessorized with a gold sea shell necklace and a gold bracelet.  Keith’s boutonniere was a windmill that mimicked the ones Lisa and the Bridesmaids had in their bouquets.   This wedding is a true demonstration that the tiniest of details can make the greatest impact.
