Q & A with the Bride:

1. What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?

Even on a weekday morning when no events were set up, Thorpewood’s lodge was warm and inviting from the minute we walked in the door. Everything about the place was gorgeous in a very natural and laid-back way, and we knew that all of our friends and family would feel at home celebrating with us there.

2. Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?

Our favorite details were the things that made the day “ours,” and it’s difficult to narrow them down. Ryan’s mom spent hours baking desserts for the reception, including his favorite chocolate chip oatmeal cookies. My aunt and uncle built a sign post showing the distance to all of the towns we had lived, which our guests passed on the way to the ceremony site. Since I grew up in Florida and Ryan is from California, we had a sand ceremony using sand from beaches where we had spent lots of time growing up. We also chose readings and music that had meaning for us, even though most would not be considered traditional wedding picks. I loved walking down the aisle to Peter Gabriel and watching our guests laugh during the readings.

3. Give us the one moment from your wedding that you can’t stop thinking about.

My husband is a known procrastinator, who was up until 4 a.m. the night before the wedding writing his vows. Knowing that, I was completely blown away when he spoke, and I’m not sure that I even noticed the 100 or so people, who were watching us.

What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?

The view from the venue is breathtaking!  I will go out on a limb and say its the best in the Lake Chelan area! I knew right away when I started planning our wedding, that I wanted a place that had amazing natural beauty, ambiance and a romantic feeling. I looked at indoor venues, and some outdoor before finding Benson Vineyards, but, none could compare to the feeling I got when we were there. It felt like ‘us’.

Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?

I put a lot of thought into my guest tables and centerpieces. I figured that while I didn’t want huge, expensive centerpieces, I wanted them to be memorable. I had seen an idea online to cut the bottoms off of wine bottles, and put candles in them. My dad cut all the bottles for me and we learned pretty early in that real candles were not going to work, so, flameless ones were used.  I love the way candlelight, even outdoors, creates such a romantic ambiance.  Each place setting was saved with a menu and a wine charm attached that I had hand beaded, with the guest’s name on it.

Another detail very special to me was our wine box.  We wanted to do something unique and personal during our ceremony. Our officiant, pastor Craig, suggested a wonderful idea. A box that would hold a bottle of wine, two glasses, and two letters written each by the bride and groom to each other. We would lock the box together during the ceremony, and open it together on our 5th anniversary. How perfect for a winery wedding! Our moms held the letters we had written to each other, and gave them to us, along with a hug, and we locked the box together.

One of the most important parts of the day for me, was the memory of my friend, Heidi.  She was one of my best friends since college, and had tragically passed away a few years ago. I wanted her to be part of my day though.  I had saved a bridesmaid spot for her, which made our numbers uneven, but, I couldn’t fill it with anyone else.

All this week, we’ve been inspired by the Fourth of July holiday. We shared red, white, and blue wedding gowns and bridesmaid dresses, as well as a super-patriotic real wedding. To kick off the weekend, we thought we’d share one more piece of red, white, and blue wedding inspiration in the form of this style shoot which took place on the shores of Lake Superior in Marquette, Michigan. We love the preppy, whimsical details – particularly the striped table runners, the “sign-in oar,” and the message in a bottle decor.

Our Q&A with the Bride:

What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?

Before I even met my prince charming, I always knew I wanted a wedding at a white country church and a red barn. It took one look at the barn and I knew it was the venue. It is the perfect venue for your dream country wedding.

Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?

It’s hard to narrow them down to just three. My three favorite details from my wedding would be our best man (my husband’s brother and a Marine) wearing his dress blues while walking down the aisle to “My Country ‘Tis of Thee,” the firework show at the end of the night and seeing all of my maid of honor and my work come together to make the perfect day! We worked so hard the year leading up to the wedding. Little details were the most important thing to me. It was definitely a DIY, Americana and country themed wedding.

Tell us about the one moment from your wedding day that you can’t stop thinking about.

I can’t stop thinking about the whole day. Everything was perfect and it was the happiest day of my life, marrying my best friend surrounded by everyone we love. It was a very hot day for an outside wedding and our guests were glowing with sweat, but the heat didn’t bother this bride!
