Brandy and Brock were married at the Historic Santa Margarita Ranch in Santa Margarita, Calif. on August 10. A large part of their wedding was completely homemade — from the wooden signs that said, “God gave me you” (from the Blake Shelton country song) and wooden boxes used for centerpieces to the intricately stitched quilt signed by each guest and popsicle sticks written with date night suggestions. That wasn’t all! Since the groom is a pilot, he folded over 150 paper airplanes for guests to throw as they walked down the aisle as husband and wife. Keep in mind that the bride was wearing her mother’s veil too. In lieu of a traditional cake, mini pocket pies were served as desserts and salted caramels were given out as favors.
Elva and Bobby were married on July 20 at Limoneira Ranch in Santa Paula, Calif. “My husband and I knew we wanted an outdoor, rustic venue that would capture our vision of having a whimsical, festive Mexican and Persian multicultural wedding,” Elva said. “Everything about the site was picture-perfect: its rich history, the lemon orchards, the bocce ball courts, the old buildings, the green hills, the windmills, the views, the list is endless! Being able to have a hot air balloon on site for our guests didn’t hurt either.” The traditional Persian ceremony was, for many of their guests, a first introduction to the other family’s customs, since it consisted of items that symbolized a happy marriage to them — sweets, pastries, mirrors, flowers, honey and Holy Quran. The Mexican reception decor was “bright, bold, and full of fun colors,” she said. “We incorporated papel picado, maracas, Mexican sweet bread, mini pinatas, and of course, lots of tequila in our signature drinks.”
Melissa and Aaron were married on one of the hottest days of summer, but that didn’t keep this soiree from happening. The bride walked down the aisle wearing a sweetheart mermaid wedding gown and accessorized with a flower hair pin in her side updo whereas the groom wore a gray suit and pale blue tie, which also matched the bridesmaids’ chiffon dresses. Floral arrangements featured baby’s breath, roses, dahlias, succulents, and scabiosa pods. During the outdoor ceremony, Melissa and Aaron filled a mason jar of sand together to represent their unity. Each guest received a “to have and to hold and to keep your beer cold” koozie at each place setting, enjoyed a “love is sweet” candy bar filled with jolly ranchers, lollipops, reese’s pieces, and sour patch kids, and slipped on a pair of dancing shoes to keep comfy.
From the photographer: “Julie and Thinh’s wedding took a place in an opulent venue of Hummingbird Nest Ranch in Simi Valley. It was a very laid back and beautiful wedding. Julie and Thinh DIY a big portion of their wedding. They designed and printed invitations and thank you cards. Their friend Jannie Nguyen (creative designer for Pottery Barn) helped them with the wedding concept, which was simply elegant with a rustic touch. Julie borrowed a gorgeous gown from her close and generous friend. The dress fit her perfectly, and it was as she envisioned. Her shoes were elegant and blue.
There were couple surprises at the wedding. Julie’s dad surprised her with a diamond necklace, which she absolutely loved. Her husband Thinh had something coming too. When Julie was getting her makeup done, the best man came in to visit her and pass her Thinh’s special gift. It was a love letter and a small jewelry box. Julie opened the box and inside was Thinh’s late grandma’s earrings, which were passed through generations. With an excitement, Julie unfolded Thinh’s love letter and she broke in tears and happiness while reading it.

1. What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?
There were so many great things about La Cuesta Ranch. It really is a venue that you can make your own. We got to choose all of our own vendors, and our guests were allowed to camp on the premise if they wished to stay the night. Gabriel, the venue’s manager/owner was really accommodating.
2. Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?
1. I loved our wedding ceremony at the Mission. Although it was a very traditional Catholic mass, it was important to Joe and I to make sure God was a big part of our big day.
2. Dan Curcio, our live music/DJ for the night learned our first dance song, “Who I Am” by Wade Bowen and played it for us on his guitar.
3. Rebecca’s Ice Cream Truck was a big hit at the end of the night to help us all cool off after the hottest day in San Luis Obispo of the summer!
3, Give us the one moment in your wedding day you can’t stop thinking about.
The people at our wedding came to dance and have fun. The barn is a dirt floor where the dancing was taking place, so it was getting pretty dusty in there. The song “Shout” really got the dust flying. After that song, I had gone outside to get an ice cream from the ice cream truck and looked back at the barn. It looked like the barn was on fire! I thought “Oh gosh! We burned the barn down!’ Until I realized it was just all of the kicked up dust flying through the wooden roof of the barn.
