Jennifer and Michael were married at Pebble Hill Plantation in Thomasville, Ga. on June 2. “We knew we wanted to get married outside and have a tented reception,” Jennifer said. “Our location, Pebble Hill Plantation, had so many beautiful ceremony spots that, at first, it was hard to choose. During our tour of the plantation, I described wanting a ‘secret garden’ feeling. We stopped at an old tennis court covered in grass with beautiful ivy-clad brick walls. It fit perfectly with our vision.” The bride wore a lace fit ‘n’ flare wedding gown with illusion straps, accessorized with an ivory sash, while the groom wore a khaki suit, accessorized with a solid tie. Bridesmaids wore long black chiffon dresses and carried bouquets of peonies, hydrangeas, and succulents. “We had an amazing moment before the ceremony,” she said. “We had both finished getting ready and were just waiting for the ceremony, so Michael came to find me just as I was starting to get nervous. He walked up to a window with his back turned and his eyes closed. We just talked for a minute. I felt much better afterwards. Before he left, he gave me a kiss, and the next time I saw him, he was standing at the altar.” Fun fact: the groom’s father was the officiant! “It was nice to have him be such an important part of the ceremony,” Jennifer said. “He immediately reminded us of the love from our family and friends that supported us.” Following the nuptials, guests were escorted to their seats inside the pole tent. Tables were decorated with burlap linens, birdcage centerpieces, and Full Moon farm’s famous honey jars at each place setting. Instead of a DJ, there was a bluegrass band! The newlyweds’ best advice? “Many couples, often mostly the bride, have an exact vision of the things they want for their wedding day,” she said. “They struggle to let go of details they’ve been dreaming over for years. I would say to couples planning their wedding that the most important thing to keep in mind is the reason behind the celebration, the love that you and your partner have for each other. If you keep this at the forefront of planning, it will help to relieve some of the stress you might feel when things aren’t lining up exactly.”
Brooke and Matt were married at Boone Hall Plantation overlooking Horlbeck Creek in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. on August 9. “Looking back on our wedding day, I think what made it so special was sharing our love with those who mean the most to us,” Brooke said. “I really feel like everyone got a taste of everything that makes Matt and I who we are.” The bride wore a strapless a-line wedding gown with a beaded bodice and ruffled skirt, accessorized with a braided crown updo, while the groom wore a white button-up shirt, khaki pants, and a solid tie. Bridesmaids wore short dresses and carried bouquets of roses, craspedia balls, succulents, hydrangeas, and baby’s breath. The wedding colors? “Neutrals with accents of turquoise, yellow, and orange,” she said. “A subtle yet warm palette for a summer wedding.” As guests arrived, they were encouraged to sit anywhere! But after the ceremony, “my brother led the Grand March, weaving them throughout the cotton deck to the Italian cookie cake we had in addition to the traditional cake,” Brooke said. “The cookie cake and Grand March have been a part of my parent’s wedding, my grandparent’s wedding, my great grandparent’s wedding, and so on. Ours would not have been complete without it.” Along with the three-course fare and late night snacks, there was also a signature drink — “Lowcountry Mojito,” which included firefly vodka, mint, simply syrup, and soda. A nod to the South! “It was sort of a mix of rustic and vintage with the laid back Charleston attidue,” she said. “Decorations were minimal.” Tables were named after streets such as Rutledge, Simons, and Broad. “I truly believe that our wedding was the definition of care free,” Brooke said. “From the casual attire to the all-night dancing, I could look around the room and see the spirit of our families on the faces of our loved ones.”
Kelly and Stephen were married at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens in Charleston, S.C. on March 31. The bride wore a sweetheart lace fit ‘n’ flare wedding gown, accessorized with a jeweled sash and pair of silver peep-toe platform pumps, while the groom wore a dark gray suit, accessorized with a striped tie. Bridesmaids wore long purple chiffon dresses and carried bouquets of roses, hydrangeas, and berries. “My favorite part of the day was our first look,” Kelly said. “It was the only time that we really had to ourselves where we could take in all what was happening.” The outdoor ceremony took place underneath giant oak trees with sweeping scenic views of Ashley River from behind. After they were announced husband and wife, cocktail hour kicked off with signature “Blushing Bride” and “Plantation Tea” drinks in mason jars complete with striped straws. “We felt so blessed that all our family and friends traveled to attend our destination wedding,” she said. Inside the Carriage House, farm tables were decorated with runners, mercury glass vases and vessels, and chalkboard numbers. Dinner included traditional Southern fare like crab cakes, macaroni and cheese squares, and homemade corn bread. Yum! The newlyweds’ best advice? “Take your time and really focus on what matters to both of you.” A three-tiered square cake was the focal point of the dessert display, and following the last dance of the night, sparklers were lit to send them on their honeymoon to Dubai.
Julie and Steven were married at Clover Forest Plantation in Goochland, Va. on September 14. “It reminded me of the house I grew up in,” Julie said. “They were both built during the same time period, so I felt right in my comfort zone.” The bride wore a sweetheart a-line wedding gown with a layered skirt, accessorized with her hair half-up/half-down in loose curls, while the groom wore a light gray suit, accessorized with a striped tie. Notice the polka dots? “They were on the bodice of my wedding gown, which inspired me to use this pattern in other parts of the decor like the invitations, linens, and even the paper straws,” she said. Fun fact: Julie is a graphic designer! Bridesmaids wore short purple chiffon dresses and carried bouquets of roses and seeded eucalyptus. “The ceremony location had a beautiful pergola that overlooked a private lake for us to say our ‘I do’s’ underneath,” Julie said. “It had an overall romantic, Southern charm to it. Having our dog, Madison, as the flower girl was really important to both of us. We had a little flower collar made for her and had a ‘maid walk her down the aisle.” Guests were asked to write well wishes and advice on cards for the new Mr. and Mrs. Tables were decorated with gray linens, pink napkins, and mini pots filled with succulents. “Steven’s brother, Michael, performed ‘Thank You’ by Led Zepplin on his guitar for our first dance,” she said. “This unique song means a lot, and we thought it was special to hear it played live. It also took some attention off of us while we were dancing, since we ran out of time to practice.”
Andrea and Daniel were married at Desert Plantation in Woodville, Mississippi on December 15. “There were gorgeous oak trees and beautiful grounds around the cutest little plantation home,” Andrea said. “What really got me was the way the sun beamed through the branches and created this ethereal setting that was just breathtaking.” Instead of doing a first look with Daniel, Andrea had a first look with her dad. “It was a such a sweet and special moment,” she said. She wore a v-neck lace wedding gown with an illusion back, accessorized with a fingertip-length veil, while bridesmaids wore an array of mauve, ivory, and brown dresses, accessorized with pashmina shawls. These two lovebirds said, “I do” following praise and worship next to hanging vintage doors and chandeliers and walked back down the aisle with fake snow in the air. Reception tables were decorated with picture frames, books, pearls, and do-it-yourself flowers, and Jenga blocks were signed with well wishes to “build memories.”
