The bride wore a Rosa Clara silk organza ballgown with a bateau neckline and bow detailing on the back, accessorized with her hair in a low, chignon bun and blusher veil, while the groom wore a tan suit, accessorized with a blue button-up shirt and bow tie. Bridesmaids wore mix ‘n’ matched short pink dresses in various necklines and carried bouquets of roses, hydrangeas, and scabiosa pods. Before sunset, the couple opted for a first look. The vows were sealed with a kiss underneath a twinkling-lit pergola surrounded by a grove of acacia trees in the Alice Y. Holsclaw Performance Garden. Fun fact: There may or may not have been some sightings of songbirds in the air. Dinner continued in the open-concept kitchen restaurant. Perfect for the foodie newlyweds! Wooden tables were decorated with nothing but plates, napkins, flatware, and glassware. Plus, engagement pictures, which served double-duty as numbers, to direct everyone to their assigned seats. “Each entree was artfully constructed and quite delicious,” Elizabeth Miller of Ann Bradford Photodesign said. “Afterwards, dancing was a must-have with several guests being from the Shelly’s dance troupe.” The night wasn’t complete without dessert too. Cristina and Jeff were married at Lord Thompson Manor in Thompson, Conn. on June 28. Only 16 months after the proposal in the Italian Alps. “It was one of those vacations where you wonder how life could possibly get any better at that particular moment,” Cristina said. “The third day in, we were skiing . . . the sun was shining and the sky was the bluest blue. Jeff asked if I wanted to take a photo at the highest point of the mountain. So, we walked over to the edge and no sooner could I turn around for the camera, he was down on one knee. It was unexpected, but I had been hoping for months that it would happen at the same time.” The bride wore a strapless beaded a-line wedding gown, accessorized with a sash and a pair of Jimmy Choo glitter peep-toe platform pumps, while the groom wore a black tuxedo, accessorized with a bow tie. Bridesmaids wore long pink chiffon dresses and carried bouquets of roses. The outdoor ceremony took place on the 40-acre estate’s grounds underneath the towering trees. “Our venue was incredibly classic and romantic,” she said. Toasts along with flutes of champagne were given to guests immediately afterwards. Cheers to the Mr. and Mrs! “We had a choreographed dance, which we totally nailed, as our introduction into the reception,” Cristina said. “I was in all my glory! And the photos show it.” Tables were decorated with white sequin linens, mercury glass centerpieces and candelabras, charger plates with rimmed edges, pearl-studded menu cards, and pashmina shawls wrapped around chiavari chairs. Glass orbs hung from the ceilings lit with candles. Fun fact: dinner was prepared by one of the famous James Beard Foundation celebrity chefs. The newlyweds’ best advice? “Stick to a consistent theme,” she said. “Once you do that, the look will all fall into place.” At the end of the night, sparklers were lit for the send-off.
Caitlin and Nicholas were married at Olowalu Plantation House in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii on July 13. “I researched a lot of different venues on Maui,” Caitlin said. “We saw stunning pictures of Olowalu and felt that it was an absolute gem but wanted to make sure the heavenly pictures weren’t deceiving. We live almost 5,000 miles away in Pennsylvania, so we were hoping it wasn’t too good to be true. Our phenomenal wedding planner told us it was her favorite on the entire island! I just loved all the options for backdrops.” The bride wore a strapless drop-waisted wedding gown with a beaded bodice, accessorized with a fingertip-length veil and headband, while the groom wore a black suit, accessorized with a tie. Bridesmaids wore short pink chiffon dresses and carried bouquets of roses, orchids, and lilies. “The moment that I can’t stop thinking about is right after my mom helped me get into my dress,” she said. “I walked towards Nick for our first look. He had his back towards me, and when I tapped him on the shoulder, he turned around, his eyes welled up, and he just stood there and stared at me. He told me I looked awesome so many times, and it was so sweet.” The ceremony took place overlooking the ocean with 23 close family and friends in attendance, who had traveled from Charolette, Philadelphia, and even Tampa too. After the vows were sealed with a kiss, the newlyweds recessed down the aisle with petals being thrown at them. Cocktails were served via beverage dispensers next to a pineapple ice sculpture. Reception tables were decorated with white linens, orange runners, bamboo chargers, and palm tree place card holders at each setting. There was also a hula and fire dancer performing for extra entertainment. Plus, sparklers during the cake cutting! The newlyweds’ best advice? “I would encourage couples to plan their wedding as a team,” Caitlin said.
Sarah and Jay were married at Cypress Grove Estate House in Orlando, Fla. on December 22. “We loved the beautiful outdoor setting with majestic oaks overlooking a lake, and the fact that our guests could easily walk from the ceremony to the cocktail hour and then to the reception,” Sarah said. “I wanted it to be full of Southern elegance, and it was exciting to see how the details of the decorations all created that feeling too.” The bride wore a long-sleeved satin wedding gown, accessorized with a fingertip-length veil and jeweled sash, while the groom wore a light gray suit, accessorized with a tie. Bridesmaids wore one-shoulder long navy blue chiffon dresses and carried bouquets of garden roses, hydrangeas, and anemones. “My favorite moment was when my father walked me down the aisle, and I could see Jay’s expression as he saw me for the first time,” she said. During the ceremony, the couple lit a unity candle to symbolize the joining of two families. Guests were escorted to their seats via vintage keys. Tables were decorated with lace linen overlays, mercury glass centerpieces, votive candles, and framed numbers. The newlyweds’ best advice? “My mother and I loved planning, but when it came to the big day, the best advice I can tell other couples is to hire a day-of or event coordinator,” Sarah said. “Jocelyn was behind-the-scences making sure everything was perfect. Jay and I didn’t panic at all, but instead, we were able to just enjoy it with our closest family and friends.” In lieu of a DJ, there was a live band; plus, not to mention, a photo booth for extra entertainment. Even though the rain threatened to challenge the couple’s first look plans, they still managed to surprise each other downtown overlooking the city skyline. The venue served double-duty for the ceremony and reception. Imagine an old cream-colored brick building featuring vaulted ceilings and crystal chandeliers! Fun fact: It used to be a “hotel” for cars. Notice the ribbon backdrop? Totally handmade. Tables were decorated with lace runners, vintage vases and vessels centerpieces, glitter numbers, and family heirloom plates and tea cups at each place setting too. Guests were given favor bags filled with personalized M & M’S and tied with a handwritten thank-you note. For dessert, a mini two-tiered cake and cupcakes. Yum!
