Jessica and Ross were married in a traditional church ceremony at the Catholic Student Center at Washington University followed by a reception at Jefferson Memorial in St. Louis, Mo. on November 16. “Jefferson Underground has personality, and we wanted something other than a cookie-cutter wedding,” Jessica said. “We loved the unfinished brick walls and industrial feel to it as well as the outdoor space we could us for the bar and dance floor.” The bride wore a strappy satin fit ‘n’ flare wedding gown, accessorized with statement earrings, necklace, and sash, while the groom wore a three-piece gray suit, accessorized with a tie. Bridesmaids wore mix ‘n’ matched short navy blue dresses and carried bouquets of dahlias, anemones, silver brunia balls, thistles, and succulents. “From the beginning, we wanted the theme of our wedding to be really neat lighting,” she said. “The Aries Company helped us realize that dream with the string lights and Edison light fixtures. It really stood out in pictures and added a special glow to the whole evening.” Dinner was all tons and tons of local flavors! “We wanted to show our guests a taste of St. Louis — Schlafyly seasonal beer, BBQ, and ice cream with ingredients sourced all over,” Jessica said. Tables were decorated with gray linens, assorted vases and vessels centerpieces, and yarn art numbers. Notice the goat cheese potato chip favor bags at each place setting? Plus, the personalized plastic cups that also served double-duty as escort cards. “After the first dance, it started to sprinkle and rain a little bit,” she said. “We were worried it would ruin the reception, but our guests weren’t deterred. We will never forget dancing in the rain with all of our family and friends, and it made for some unforgettable memories and hilarious pictures.”
Candace and Iain were married in a traditional church ceremony at The Old Brick Church followed by a reception at Limestone Bay Trading Co. in Moorseville, Ala. on June 28. “The vintage detail of it all,” Candace said. “Dee was wonderful and provided us with all of our decorations. Think: mason jars and lace tablecloths, and the beautiful mismatched china plates we ate dinner on. It all fit our personality perfectly from the tent outback decked out with strng lights to the detailed organic flower arrangements.” The bride wore a strapless lace fit ‘n’ flare wedding gown, accessorized with a jeweled sash and a pair of “something blue” strappy high heels, while the groom wore a light gray suit, accessorized with a striped yellow bow tie. Fun fact: “I put my old and new monograms on the soles of my shoes, so I could start off my new life on the right foot and remember what I left behind,” she said. Bridesmaids wore short navy blue chiffon dresses and carried bouquets of roses. Before the ceremony, the couple opted for a first look and exchanging of gifts. “My husband’s vows, I cried, of course, but they were tailored to our relationship,” Candace said. “He even promised we could have pizza every night if I wanted to. (It is my all-time favorite food.) Also after finishing up, he tried putting the ring on the wrong finger, which definitely lightened the tears and made it an unforgettable moment.” The reception went off without a hitch underneath the summer sky. “Food came in a close second knowing it was for us,” she said. “BBQ pork on corn cakes with mac ‘n’ cheese, green beans, baked beans, broccoli salad, and fruit skewers! Topped off with our delicious red velvet cake! We’re getting hungry just thinking about it.” After a few dances, dips, and twirls, the newlyweds were worn out. Plus, it was almost time for their honeymoon roadtrip across California.
Reagan and Dan were married in a traditional church ceremony at Hamilton College followed by a reception at Harding Farm in Clinton, N.Y. on June 28. “There’s always something special about stepping back into the place where you first fell in love,” Christopher Szulwach, the photographer, said. “That’s exactly why these two traveled back to their alma mater from Washington, D.C. The beautiful chapel (the oldest of its style in the United States), and the Hamilton College’s campus was the perfect place to gather family and friends for the ceremony because of its rich history.” The bride wore a strapless lace fit ‘n’ flare wedding gown, accessorized with a pair of pointe shoes, while the groom wore a dark gray suit, accessorized with a heart patterened tie. Bridesmaids wore short navy blue chiffon dresses and carried bouquets of sunflowers wrapped in twine. Once the glass was broken, shouts of “mazel tov” could be heard, near and far. “Everyone then made the short, mile and half, trip to Harding Farm for the tented reception,” he said. A chalkboard sign directed them to “find a photo to find your table.” Tables were decoated with checkered linens, mason jar centerpieces, and origami folded napkins at each place setting. “The big day was full of personal touches: sunflowers everywhere in memory of Reagan’s father and her special memories planting them with him each year as a child, Dan’s tie tack, which was passed down to him from his father, who is also no longer with us, Reagan’s bouquet was wrapped in one of her father’s old ties, the custom embroidery in Dan’s suit, and the fun selection of pies instead of cake,” Christopher Szulwach, the photographer, said. “Now, this is a wedding I would call classicly trendy!”
Megan and Dino were married at Billingsley House Museum in Upper Marlboro, Md. on July 5. “We absolutely loved that it was outdoors with a stunning view of the Patuxent and Potomac River Corridor,” Megan said. “The trees, water, and house created a beautiful backdrop for our photos. Plus, our guests were free to move about the property.” The bride wore a halter a-line wedding gown with beaded embellishments on the corset bodice, accessorized with a pair of silvers strappy high heels, while the groom wore a gray three-piece suit, accessorized with a solid bow tie. Bridesmaids wore navy blue dresses in various necklines and hemlines and carried bright bouquets of orange roses and purple bells. “Our four-year-old Pomeranian was able to be apart of our ceremony and reception,” she said. “From her face on the table numbers and our donations to ASPCA in lieu of favors.” Megan’s favorite moment? “See Dino’s face as I was walking down the aisle.” Following the nuptials, cocktail hour began with their signature drink – peach sangria – and striped straws. Tables were decorated with do-it-yourself martini glass centerpieces filled with gems atop silver platters. “The one piece of advice I would offer is to not over think things,” Megan said. “I quickly began to have ideas and wanted to add this and that, but my groom reminded me not to overwhelm myself or our guests. Simply to keep things simple, and when I listened to him, it all came together great. I could not have ask for a better day.” There even was a dessert display complete with Hershey’s kisses, butter mints, Russell Stowe’s chocolates, and lollipops.
Lisa and Chuck were married at the bride’s parents backyard in Lake Minnetonka, Minn. on June 29. “We got married lakeside in the yard of my childhood home,” Lisa said. “My parents moved into the house a few months before I was born, and I lived there all my life. Chuck, too, fell for the charms of Lake Minnetonka over years of visits, and the one thing that we knew when we got engaged was that there was no other place we would rather start our next chapter together.” The bride wore a custom-made and -designed wedding gown with a hi-lo hemline in the front and a cowl back, accessorized with a her hair down in loose curls, while the groom wore a dark gray suit, accessorized with a bow tie. Bridesmaids wore white blouses with striped skirts and carried bouquets of almost all greenery. “Chuck and I wrote our entire wedding ceremony ourselves,” she said. “We chose two very special readings: an excerpt from our favorite book ‘The Velveteen Rabbit’ as well as the E.E. Cummings poem ‘I Carry Your Heart With Me.'” Even their five-year-old English labrador retriever, Tucker, was the ring bearer! Following the sincere nuptials, the newlyweds grabbed a glass of champagne, hopped on a boat, and cruised away from the crowd to celebrate with smooches for a bit. Guests were escorted into the reception tent draped in fabric with compasses, which directed them to “island” tables. In addition to the three-tiered buttercream cake, pecan pie was also served. For entertainment? A band and abstract painter! Plus, homemade truffles were wrapped up in boxes to take home as “bon voyage” favors.
