Jenna and Michael were married at Riverhorse on Main in Park City, Utah on June 21. The bride wore a strapless sweetheart satin mermaid wedding gown with a tiered, ruffled skirt, accessorized with her hair in an updo, fingertip-length veil, and a pair of Sam Edelman high heels with ankle straps, while the groom wore a navy blue suit, accessorized with a tie. Bridesmaids wore mix ‘n’ matched long chiffon dresses and carried bouquets of peonies, ranunculuses, and seeded eucalyptus. Fun fact: Each one wore a piece of gemstone jewelry that came from local artist Katie Waltman. The ceremony took place at the Town Lift Bridge overlooking the scenic Wasatch Mountains. Even the ski lift ran overhead! Guests were greeted with wooden pews, aisle markers featuring quotes like “she loves him for always wanting one more kiss” and “she loves his voice,” and an altar before the fence. Once the exchanging of vows were sealed with a kiss, it was official! “Jenna is a professional wedding planner in Park City, so I was excited to see the decor when I entered the reception,” Melissa Kelsey of Melissa Kelsey Photography said. “The space features brick walls, dark wood floors, and a hanging glass orb ceiling installation.” Tables were decorated with gray linens, black napkins, geometric terrariums filled with wire numbers, geodes atop moss, votive candles, and rock candy wands, which served double-duty as favors, surrounded by cross-back chairs. “The color palette was ery sophisticated,” she said. “It was just so unforced, layered, and not matchy — rich red, soft purple, marine blue, metallic gold, a little pink.” Dinner included a baby spinach salad, warm goat cheese flatbread, vegetarian tofu, and lemon pepper pasta primavera. A two-tiered fondant-frosted cake was cut and served for dessert along with honey ice cream. At the end of the night, an after-party continued downstairs with even more dancing!
Kyle and Kaylan were married at the Carnegie Institution for Science in Washington, D.C. on November 22. “We obviously loved the grand rotunda that allowed us to get married in the round,” Kyle said. “We hadn’t seen this before and loved the idea of having our guests surround us. We also really loved the versatility of the venue. It had about five very distinct spaces that helped make each portion of the night seem unique.” The grooms wore custom-made navy blue tuxedos with black lapels, accessorized with bow ties and cufflinks that said, “Second star to the right and straight on till morning” from the movie Peter Pan. Bridesmaids wore short navy blue satin dresses with illusion necklines and carried bouquets of roses, ranunculuses, hydrangeas, anemones, and seeded eucalyptus, while the groomsmen wore black tuxedos and boutonnieres of freesia. Before the ceremony, the couple opted for a first look. Guests were greeted with a chalkboard sign that described the itinerary. In lieu of separately walking down the aisle during the processional with their parents, they walked in together, hand-in-hand. “Music has always been very special to us and having it be a part of our ceremony was a must,” he said. “Having three of our close friends sing really took our breath away and created a lasting memory.” Once the exchanging of vows were sealed with a kiss, it was official with almost 100 witnessing! Cocktail hour began in the boardroom with a signature drink called “The Getaway” (inspired by Hanks Oyster Bar) garnished with birch straws. Family-style dinner took place in the ballroom shortly thereafter, including a mixed green salad with seasonal fruit, candied pecans, and balsamic vinaigrette, garlic-butter shrimp with creame gouda grits and sliced New York strip steak with a port wine reduction, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. “There were so many things to look at, but I think the most impressive details were the seven-foot tree and candle centerpieces, and striped and sequin linens,” Kyle said. For extra entertainment, a photo booth was provided with props. Bonus: Kyle surprised Kaylan by singing Edwin McCain’s “I’ll Be (The Greatest Fan Of Your Life” with his cappella group. A mini cake was cut and served for dessert. The newlyweds’ best advice? “Utilize your wedding party,” he said. “I think we drove ourselves crazy trying to do everything on our own. These people are your best friends and are usually eager to help. The whole point of having a wedding party is to not have to carry the burden of decision making, do-it-yourself creation, and box toting on your own.” At the end of the night, they exited amonst a sea of jingle bells and jetted off to their honeymoon in Key West.
Kathleen and Mike were married at St. Clement’s Church, followed by a reception at The Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum in Chicago, Ill. on May 24. The bride stunned in a strapless ball gown with a ruched bodice and tiered skirt. She wore her hair in a delicate updo and carried a bouquet filled with peonies, garden roses, white dawn roses, and silver brunia. Her ‘maids donned short, navy blue a-line dresses with a v-neckline. They carried bouquets of trick dianthus, viburnums, hydrangeas, and roses. The groom wore a navy blue three-piece suit with a striped necktie, while his groomsmen wore gray suits with blue and white striped neckties. Kathleen and Mike were married in a traditional ceremony in front of friends and family. A reception followed at The Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum in Lincoln Park. Guests sat at round tables with navy blue linens and floral centerpieces with candles in the middle. Each table had a graphic-designed quote and table number. The couple offered local beer such as Half Acre and Goose Island. After dinner, guests enjoyed a three-tiered, chevron-patterned square cake adorned with flowers. This beautiful city wedding was surely a night to remember.
Jessica and Ross were married in a traditional church ceremony at the Catholic Student Center at Washington University followed by a reception at Jefferson Memorial in St. Louis, Mo. on November 16. “Jefferson Underground has personality, and we wanted something other than a cookie-cutter wedding,” Jessica said. “We loved the unfinished brick walls and industrial feel to it as well as the outdoor space we could us for the bar and dance floor.” The bride wore a strappy satin fit ‘n’ flare wedding gown, accessorized with statement earrings, necklace, and sash, while the groom wore a three-piece gray suit, accessorized with a tie. Bridesmaids wore mix ‘n’ matched short navy blue dresses and carried bouquets of dahlias, anemones, silver brunia balls, thistles, and succulents. “From the beginning, we wanted the theme of our wedding to be really neat lighting,” she said. “The Aries Company helped us realize that dream with the string lights and Edison light fixtures. It really stood out in pictures and added a special glow to the whole evening.” Dinner was all tons and tons of local flavors! “We wanted to show our guests a taste of St. Louis — Schlafyly seasonal beer, BBQ, and ice cream with ingredients sourced all over,” Jessica said. Tables were decorated with gray linens, assorted vases and vessels centerpieces, and yarn art numbers. Notice the goat cheese potato chip favor bags at each place setting? Plus, the personalized plastic cups that also served double-duty as escort cards. “After the first dance, it started to sprinkle and rain a little bit,” she said. “We were worried it would ruin the reception, but our guests weren’t deterred. We will never forget dancing in the rain with all of our family and friends, and it made for some unforgettable memories and hilarious pictures.”
Caitlin and Zach were married at The Oxford Hotel in Denver, Colo. on May 17. “It’s hard to limit to just one thing!” Caitlin said. “We just loved the feel of The Oxford Hotel, and it’s one of the oldest hotels in Denver, surrounded by a lot of new buildings, in a fun and high-energy location.” The bride wore a strapless satin ball gown with a pleated bodice and beading at empire waistline, accessorized with a pair of mint green leather high heels, while the groom wore a dark gray three-piece suit, accessorized with a solid tie. Bridesmaids wore short coral dresses and carried bouquets of roses, ranunculuses, peonies, hydrangeas, and lilacs. “We worked around a palette of lavender, mint, light blue, and orange, but didn’t limit ourselves to only that palette,” she said. “We wanted to bring in lots of cheerful colors for our spring wedding.” Before the ceremony, the couple opted for a first look. “Zach and I were both super nervous leading up to the ceremony, but we felt so much better after we saw each other for the first time,” Caitlin said. “It just took a lot of pressure off, so we could just feel happy, excited, and ready to get married.” How cool to do it in the city’s new Union Station terminal? The reception took place in the same room they said their vows! Tables were decorated with vintage vases and vessels, mercury glass votive candles, and scalloped numbers. In addition to a mini cake, there was also cupcakes — maple bacon- and mai tai fruit-flavored. The newlyweds’ best advice? Try not to procrastinate,” she said. “Your life will be so much easier if you take care of tasks early on rather than putting them off until the last minute.”
