Traditional Southern Summer Church Wedding in Alabama

Birmingham, Alabama

Q & A with the Bride:

1. What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?

My then fiance and I fell in love with Altadena Valley Presbyterian Church because of its historic charm. The church was constructed to be a replica of its original building, and it was love at first sight for us. I wanted a vintage feel that was still comfortable and cozy and that is exactly what this church and its grounds portray.

2. Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?

1. I loved my bridal party’s attire. The girl’s dresses and pearl necklaces turned out so southern and sweet, and I loved the classic black tuxes we went with for the groomsmen.

2. I loved the fresh peaches we scored from a local farm outside the city limits of Birmingham. They were so fresh and delicious in July and made beautiful centerpieces and accents.

3. I loved our wedding cake. Not only was it scrumptious, but Julie Hendricks made an incredible cake stand out of a peach basket that made my heart swoon.

3.  Give us the one moment in your wedding day you can’t stop thinking about.

There were so many great moments in our whirlwind of a wedding day, but one moment that is still particularly sweet going on 3 years later is the car ride back to the hotel. For us, I can still remember that sweet long exhale after leaving the church still on a natural high from all the celebrating that just happened and yet still in awe that you both actually did it — you got married and are now husband and wife from that moment on until forever. A very overlooked moment throughout the wedding day I would say, but special indeed. We really appreciated having a driver, so we could bask in that moment wholeheartedly.

Joyful Orange Summer Ranch Wedding in Hawaii

Q & A with the Bride & Groom:

1. What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?

The spectacular view.

2. Which four details from your wedding were your favorites?

1. The place settings with the personalized favors and single orchid  we actually had people taking more than one favor.

2. The giant lawn games for the reception — it was very relaxed atmosphere, and we were able to spend a little time with everyone.

3. Flower mob — we had 9 kids throwing flowers instead of 1 or 2.

4. Shaved ice instead of wedding cake – since most of our guests were not from Hawaii, it was a treat that you cannot get every day. Loved the fresh, tropical flavors!

4. Give us the one moment in your wedding you can’t stop thinking about.

The first look, the moment that we first saw each other on the day. Tara was so beautiful, and exiting the ceremony after our kiss. We were so excited, we starting skipping and jumping.

Vintage Chic Fall Ranch Wedding in Canada

Zoe & Craig

Q & A with the Bride & Groom:

1. What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?

We were looking for a venue that would incorporate both the vintage feel we wanted our wedding to have and be near the Rocky Mountains where we met, fell in love, and still love to hike and rock climb.

2. Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?

I LOVED my flowers. I’ve always loved to make arrangements, so I loved the fact that I got to pick out the flowers I wanted and make the bouquets myself. They turned out better than I could have hoped! We loved the feel of our wedding. We wanted it to feel relaxed and flow together as if it was just a gathering of friends. We didn’t want a structured or unnatural day. We put out yard games and refreshments so the ceremony would just flow into the reception and the guests would feel comfortable to just mingle and enjoy themselves. We decided from the beginning of wedding planning that we wanted our wedding to feel handmade. We loved that when we looked around we saw our creativity expressed in every detail.

3. Give us the moment in your wedding day you can’t stop thinking about.

Zoe: I will never forget the moment when the ceremony was over, and we had finished our one-on-one time with our amazing photographers, Craig and I walked up to where our guests were playing yard games, enjoying refreshments, visiting with one another and laughing. The sun was setting behind them, and I remember stopping and just watching them. They all looked so happy and carefree. To have so many people I care dearly for all in one place, enjoying one another’s company was truly a mental snapshot that will stick with me.

Craig: My moment would be during the reception. Zoe and I watched and listened as her brother, whom we are both extremely close to, gave his speech and then followed it with himself, Zoe’s other brother, and her sister singing as a trio “Butterfly Kisses” in opera style. It was the funniest thing I have ever heard and remember laughing so hard with Zoe about while it was happening, on the ride to the airport, and still to this day. That moment of true joy together on our day along with her family was so memorable.

Bridal Shower Picnic Style Shoot in North Carolina

Posted by Caitlin on Jun 14, 2013

We often forget about the events leading up to the wedding, especially the bridal shower. Why? Because you’re not supposed to plan it! You get to be the guest of honor as your closest female friends and family gather to girl-talk, eat and lavish you with gifts. Lately though, brides have been steering away from the age-old tradition and choosing their own steal-worthy theme. We love how this bridal shower is an interactive picnic. Guests were able to pick their blanket to sit on and basket to place their food in. It almost makes us want to take a trip down the rabbit hole from Alice in Wonderland. Grab a cup of tea, point your pinky and join this charming celebration:

3 Lawn Games to Entertain Your Guests

Posted by Caitlin on Jun 13, 2013

If you’re having an outdoor backyard wedding this summer, lawn games are must-haves! Set up the lawn games beforehand and add inviting sings like “May the odds be ever in your favor” or “Let the games begin,” so that it will encourage guests to play. They’re a great way to entertain them during cocktail hour (while you’re having pictures taken with your NEW husband) or even during the reception (as long as you don’t mind them missing from the dance floor). Choose between these fun favorites:

1. Croquet

2. Chess

3. Hula Hoop
