Q & A with the Bride:

1. What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?

There’s really not one thing. The farm belongs to a member of my extended family. We knew that it was a beautiful, unique setting, and that we would be able to make the day exactly what we wanted it to be.

2. Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?

1. My brother is a judge and performed the wedding.

2. The great food and cocktails: bbq smoked on-site, handmade juices, macarons and bitters

3. The farm atmosphere: cows and horses roaming in the pasture, cowboy boots, a bonfire to end the evening and the band!

3. If you could offer one piece of advice for other couples planning their wedding, what would it be?

It sounds cliché, but do it for you and not for them. You can’t please everyone, so figure out what will please you and get as close to that as you can. If you create a wedding that reflects who you are as a couple, everyone will have a great time and great memories.

4. Give us the one moment from your wedding day that you cannot stop thinking about.

We took some time toward the end of the day, as the sun was setting, to walk out into the pasture and take some pictures. It was the first time we had to ourselves all day, and we had freedom to be a bit silly.

Q & A with the Bride:

1. What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?

As a little girl, I always dreamed of having people come from all over for my wedding in my hometown. Once we had secured the reception tent
and confirmed the location on Main Street, I knew my childhood dream would come true.

2. Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?

1. The incorporation of family heirlooms. I wore my grandmother’s wedding ring, and we used my great grandfather’s vintage tractor in the decor.

2. Our wooden, love bird cake toppers my father designed and created himself.

3. The vintage, Ball jar candles that my husband created as part of our reception table centerpieces. The candles stayed lit all night!

3. Give us one moment from your wedding day that you cannot stop thinking about.

One of my favorite parts of the day was riding from the church to our reception site in a limousine. Since we could not take the entire wedding party with us, we decided to take all of our siblings instead. That was really a special moment for me – sitting next to my NEW husband and getting to share that intimate moment with our brothers and sisters. I won’t ever forget it.

Emily & Austin

Piqua, Kansas

June 2011

This wedding has amazing DIY details that the bride pulled together. The couple was married in a church and then had their reception on a farm in Piqua Kansas! The dance floor was illuminated by a hanging chandelier, and the guests danced the night away to a live band set in front of the white barn on the property. If you’re thinking rustic, you have to check out some of the details of this fabulous wedding!
