Summerset Winery, Indianola, Iowa

~~~~~~~~
What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?
We knew it was the venue we wanted because of the opportunity to have the ceremony outside in such a beautiful place. Summerset just seemed so peaceful, simple, and welcoming. It was the perfect place for our style!
Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?
I loved the way the ceremony was set up, how everyone was spread out under umbrellas in Adirondack chairs. It allowed for a relaxed feel for the ceremony. All of the simple details were fun. My family, friends, and I made almost all of the decorations so it was fun to see it all come together. My bouquet was from our great grandmothers’, grandmothers’, and mothers’ brooches. The bridesmaids and I all got together and everyone made their own custom fabric bouquet so each one was different. We made the boutonnieres, I made the “Here Comes the Bride” sign that the ring bearers carried, my sister-in-law made the flower girl’s tutu, my grandmother painted every chalk mason jar that the guests drank out of and then took home as favors, my aunt and uncle made all of the cupcakes and cake we cut, all of the antique doors were from a farm in Nebraska where I am from, my childhood neighbors made my flower for my hair, I made my garters, with help from my grandmother I made our thumbprint guestbook tree, and my sisters made all of the signs.
Give us the one moment in your wedding day you can’t stop thinking about.
I can’t stop thinking about our ceremony. It was so relaxed, intimate, and personal. Our officiant was our good friend and Christian mentor so it was very special that he knew us so well and delivered a message and ceremony that was meaningful and powerful. We felt so loved from everyone that was there physically and in our hearts.
Real Iowa Farm Wedding: Annie + Jared
Annie + Jared
August 2010
Prairie, Iowa
From the Photographer: “Everything about this wedding was amazing, the location, the couple, the feel of the whole day… even the weather! This wedding was one of those weddings we have always wanted to shoot. We drove out past a ton of corn fields to this red, octagonal barn and I walked into the 2nd floor of this amazing, huge old barn where their friends and family were running around, helping to set up… it was the best thing I’ve ever seen. Everywhere you looked there were hand made decorations that Annie obviously put all of her heart into and you could tell were all about the two of them. Old sewing spindles, vintage books, flowers, hand sews pieces… it was beautiful.  She even made her own dress out of 3 vintage dresses!! Come on!!” -Heather,  Jagger Photography
From the Bride: “Iowa was our inspiration. Jared and I moved here from the coast, not knowing what to expect, and a little nervous about what we would find. But instead of being flat and dull, we found it to be so lovely, with rolling hills and a profusion of wildflowers and the most amazing old barns scattered everywhere. When we began to plan our wedding, we just let the theme emerge from this place we had fallen in love with. Then we just gathered or made things that seemed somehow to fit. The overall feel we wanted for our wedding was relaxed, cozy, colorful, and glowing with love.
From the Photographer: “Jill and John’s love for one another was infectious, and their photographs describe it better than words. Everything from their wedding attire to their ceremony location accentuated their personalities. Jill and John are both from small town Iowa but have big plans to move to New York City this summer. We photographed them in a “big-city” fashion, utilizing non-traditional locations and creative lighting to capture their story with a cinematic feeling. Their wedding was a true joy to capture.” -Dan of McClanahan Studio
