Q & A with the Bride:

1. What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?

Its location.  We wanted our wedding to have a traditional New England summertime feel to it.  We chose a picturesque church for our ceremony and a beautiful beach area in which to do our portraits, and the country club is in close proximity to both.  Our venue is also representative of us as a couple – we love to play sports and spend time outside, and the country club is set on a golf course and has an indoor and outdoor component.

2. Which four details from your wedding were your favorites?

1. Flowers — simply gorgeous.

2. Cupcakes — adorable and tasty.

3. Stationary — the Green Kangaroo’s invitations, programs, place cards, and table numbers were flawless.

4. Bridesmaids and Groomsmen Attire — our sisters and brothers comprised our bridal party, and they looked perfect. Each bridesmaid wore something reflective of her style yet in keeping with our theme and color.

3. If you could offer one piece of advice for other couples planning their wedding, what would it be?

Invest in an amazing photographer.  Although you are always told that a wedding goes by quickly, you don’t fully understand how true that statement is until you experience your own wedding. By investing in an amazing photographer, as we did with Candace Jeffery, you are instilled with confidence that your beautiful memories will be captured in photos, and you are given something tangible to forever cherish.

4. Give us the one moment in your wedding you can’t stop thinking about.

Our sunset photos, which took place on the golf course about halfway through out reception.  This was the first moment that my husband and I got to be alone with one another, yet we could still hear the excitement of our family and friends in the background.  It was also a moment in which we got to reflect on the beauty of our day, which as cliché as it sounds, truly was the best day of our lives.

Wedding Venues 101

Posted by Kim on Jan 15, 2013

Looking for a wedding venue that fits your needs can be one of the trickiest (and unfortunately, stressful) parts of wedding planning. Happily, once you’ve booked your venue, the rest of the planning process will fall into place easily (we promise!). But how do you even start searching for a wedding site? First, you’ll need to pick what venue “style” most suits your personality. Here’s a mini-glossary of wedding venue types to help you get started. And don’t forget to check out our Vendor Reviews to find the perfect wedding locale near you.

Ballroom: Want a wedding that’s grand, elegant, and formal? There’s nothing like a richly appointed ballroom. Ideal for black-tie weddings with a big guest list, ballrooms (either in hotels or other historic sites), often have in-house catering and rentals to make the planning process a snap. But it’s important to note: When choosing a color scheme for a ballroom wedding, you’ll have to take the room’s permanent fixtures into account – from the carpeting to the chandeliers to the wall color. You wouldn’t want your flowers and other decor to clash with what’s already there.

Q & A with the Bride:

Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?

  1. We had life-sized cutouts of our dogs made on foam core so that they could be at the wedding too.  This lead to a lot of great photo opportunities.  Our photographer took the extra step of doing a photo shoot with them around the property, this made for a lot of laughs once we received our photos post-wedding.
  2. We decided to have a small and intimate wedding with just close friends and family which allowed a more vacation feel.  With the smaller size we were able to have a week’s worth of fun events for the whole group.
  3. The first time I saw my husband to be in the garden.  We wanted to enjoy our guests post-wedding ceremony so it was important to us to have photos taken beforehand.  I feel it made the first look even more special to have a private little place for just the two of us.

If you could offer one piece of advice for other couples planning their wedding, what would it be?

To trust the people you hire to do their jobs.  Of course, do the “background” work upfront and then just trust them to do what they do best.  It will allow you to have so much fun and not look back and say “was I less than nice to the people I love the most?!”  Also keep in mind this is a day about you and your husband vowing to spend the rest of your lives together, make sure you don’t get caught up in the details and focus on what really matters.

Give us the one moment in your wedding day you can’t stop thinking about.

I can’t pin it down to one moment, I think it was the overall feeling of love from our friends and family.  Everyone had to travel and really sacrifice their own personal time to be with us.  It was so nice to see everyone having fun with each other.  There was no feeling of bride’s side and grooms side we were all just one big happy family!

Q & A with the Bride:

1. Which four details from your wedding were your favorites?

1. Table Numbers: each table number was a significant date in our relationship for example, 27 was the day in January Christopher and I met.

2. Cake: I wanted it to really stand out. My girlfriend, Elise, made the whole thing and designed it. When she showed it to me, I think my jaw dropped. I was so excited and thought it was perfect!

3. Guests couldn’t see this, but Christopher had a picture of us when he asked me to marry him and wrote on the back to use this as my something old. It was “old” because we were no going to be husband and wife. It was so sweet and thoughtful!

4. My husband and the lead singer of the band wrote a song for me and sang it to me as a surprise at the reception. It was called, “Southern Belle.” Not only was I in tears, but the guests as well!

2. Give us the one moment from your wedding day that you cannot stop thinking about.

I can’t stop thinking about the moment I saw Chris waiting for me before the first look. He looked so handsome and nervous, which he NEVER is! When he took off the blindfold, and we looked at each other, it was the best moment any bride could ever ask for. We were both speechless and had tears in our eyes.

Q&A with the Bride:

What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?

Our venue is beautiful from the second you pulled onto the grounds.  Their landscaping was perfect and the club house was gorgeous.  We wanted a destination wedding and our venue made you feel like you were at a resort.

Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?

  1. Having all-white decor made everything very elegant
  2. I loved the overload of candles -so romantic.
  3. No cake!  I had an ice cream machine and dessert bar instead.

If you could offer one piece of advice for other couples planning their wedding, what would it be?

Be different!  I stayed away from a traditional wedding and made it my own.  You can keep some traditions that are important to you, but add something different that your guest will always remember.

Give us the one moment in your wedding day you can’t stop thinking about.

The dancing!  From our first dance to shaking it all night.
