Caitlin and Zach were married at The Oxford Hotel in Denver, Colo. on May 17. “It’s hard to limit to just one thing!” Caitlin said. “We just loved the feel of The Oxford Hotel, and it’s one of the oldest hotels in Denver, surrounded by a lot of new buildings, in a fun and high-energy location.” The bride wore a strapless satin ball gown with a pleated bodice and beading at empire waistline, accessorized with a pair of mint green leather high heels, while the groom wore a dark gray three-piece suit, accessorized with a solid tie. Bridesmaids wore short coral dresses and carried bouquets of roses, ranunculuses, peonies, hydrangeas, and lilacs. “We worked around a palette of lavender, mint, light blue, and orange, but didn’t limit ourselves to only that palette,” she said. “We wanted to bring in lots of cheerful colors for our spring wedding.” Before the ceremony, the couple opted for a first look. “Zach and I were both super nervous leading up to the ceremony, but we felt so much better after we saw each other for the first time,” Caitlin said. “It just took a lot of pressure off, so we could just feel happy, excited, and ready to get married.” How cool to do it in the city’s new Union Station terminal? The reception took place in the same room they said their vows! Tables were decorated with vintage vases and vessels, mercury glass votive candles, and scalloped numbers. In addition to a mini cake, there was also cupcakes — maple bacon- and mai tai fruit-flavored. The newlyweds’ best advice? Try not to procrastinate,” she said. “Your life will be so much easier if you take care of tasks early on rather than putting them off until the last minute.”
Lindsey and Patrick were married at the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, Colo. on June 26. “The Garden of the Gods was a special place for us because that was where we had our first real date,” Lindsey said. “We felt a deep connection there and knew that we were going to be together forever.” The bride wore a strapless satin trumpet wedding gown, accessorized with her hair in a braid and a pair of Doc Martens boots, while the groom wore a black suit, accessorized with solid tie. Her bouquet featured roses, ranunculuses, succulents, and ivy vines. “We also love the the mountains, so the view was just perfect during the ceremony,” she said. “We had each written our vows the night before. Hearing them with no one but each other to look at was so romantic.” And teary-eyed! In lieu of a reception, they had a picnic. “The picnic I made for the two of us was also a favorite of ours,” Lindsey said. “I made the sandwiches and fruit salad myself. It was nice to sit on the quilt my grandmother and mother made for us and just take in the moment while having a meal together. The dessert? Donuts. “I also loved that even though we were eloping, we still dressed like it was a formal event,” she said. “My dress made me feel like a beautiful bride, which is how you are supposed to feel on your big day!” The newlyweds’ best advice? “Make it all about you,” Lindsey said. “People get so swept up in the planning and all the little details that they forget what it is all really about, expressing your love for one another.”
Megan and Patrick were married at the History Colorado Center in Denver, Colo. on April 5. “I’m a history teacher, and I knew that having my wedding at a museum would make it memorable and personable,” Megan said. The bride wore a sweetheart a-line wedding gown with a ruffled skirt, accessorized with a jeweled sash, while the groom wore a dark gray suit, accessorized with a silver tie. Bridesmaids wore long blue chiffon dresses and carried bouquets of pink roses, peonies, and ranunculuses. “Seeing my soon-to-be husband for the first time — it was so wonderful having time separate from everyone,” she said. “It was very intimate, and I’m so glad we decided to do it. ” Plus, not to mention, it was on a spiraling stairwell! “A close family friend, who has known me since I was born, officiated and did a fantastic job incorporating special details from our lives together,” Megan said. In particular, their two dogs. Fun fact: The signature cocktails were “Comisky Whiskey” and “Flirtie Birdie.” Guests were escorted to their seats with Rifle Paper Co.’s floral patterned cards, tables were decorated with mercury glass box centerpieces, and the cake featured not one but four tiers. The newlyweds’ favorite part of the reception? “The photo booth,” she said. “It might be cliche at this point, but every guest loved it.”
Jill and Rich were married at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science in Denver, Colo. on March 16. “Rich and I lived in downtown Chicago for years and then moved to Nederland in 2010,” Jill said. “It’s been a wonderful adventure, and a huge contrast, so we wanted our wedding to capture both of those sides – the energy of the city but the comfort of a cozy mountain town. This was the main reason we opted to have both the ceremony and reception here, especially for it’s skyline views against the backdrop of the Rockies was just perfect for us!” The bride wore a satin ball gown with an asymmetrical neckline and bow detail around the waist, accessorized with a pair of leopard print Kate Spade high heels, while the groom wore a dark gray three-piece suit, accessorized with a black tie. “I approached selecting bridesmaid dresses as more of a ‘collection,’” she said. “I wanted my bridesmaids to feel like themselves and not a copy cat of each other. Each wore a unique dress in the neutral palette, but I emphasized texture through chunky jewelry.” During the ceremony, the couple chose to recite their own vows. Fun fact: The ring bearer carried antlers! “Rich and I are huge fans of Brit pop music, and we incorporated this throughout the day,” Jill said. “For example, our processional was to ‘I Love NYE’ by Badly Drawn Boy, our recessional was an instrumental of ‘Strawberry Swing’ by Coldplay, and our first dance was to ‘My Shadow’ by Keane We weren’t afraid to go outside the norm, and it felt ‘us’ as a result.” Guests were escorted to their seats via hand-drawn mini portraits, which also served double duty as favors. “While it was a time-consuming detail, drawing each individual guest made me focus solely on that person for the hour or two it took to draw them,” she said. “This made me even more excited to see them on our big day.” Tables were decorated with boxed centerpieces, wooden slice numbers, and votive candles, and a dessert display was filled with cupcakes. Our favorite flavor? S’mores.
Laura and Stephen were married in Denver, Col. on September 15. “Our original site was under water due to extreme flooding,” Laura said. So, they moved it to the bride’s mother’s backyard instead. The bride wore an ivory sweetheart wedding gown with a ruffled skirt, accessorized with a braid updo, while the groom wore a tan suit, accessorized with a patterned bow tie. Bridesmaids wore red strapless maxi dresses, accessorized with aqua belts, and groomsmen kept it casual with simply a white button-up, khakis, and suspenders. “The moment I stepped out from under the porch to walk down the aisle, the morning’s drizzle turned into serious rain,” she said. “I could’ve cried, but my father, our friends, and family we’re sticking it out. Stephen was beaming at me from the altar. What does a little rain matter, right?” Followed the colorful umbrella ceremony, guests enjoyed a tented reception with cucumber-infused water, mimosas, and bloody marys and brunch, including Belgian Liege waffles, bacon, yogurt, fruit, and pecan cinnamon rolls. Yum! Tables were decorated with burlap runners, chevron fabrics, and cactus centerpieces. The newlyweds left in style in an antique Volkswagen Beetle after guests sent them off in a sea of freshly-fallen leaves.
