Kelly and Chris were married at Sugarman Estate in Wailea-Makena, Hawaii on October 11. The bride wore a sweetheart a-line wedding gown with a lace bodice and ruffled tulle skirt, accessorized with shoulder-length veil in her half-up/half-down ‘do, while the groom wore a gray suit, accessorized with a skull-themed bow tie. The maid of honor wore a short navy blue chiffon dress and carried a bouquet of roses, berries, dusty millers, and ferns. The ceremony took place at sunset with the Pacific Ocean as the backdrop stretching from the shores of Honua Kai Lani to the islands of Kahoolawe, Molokini, and beyond. The couple decided to write their own vows. “There are no words I could ever relay about how I feel about you . . . I could only think of a movie — Jerry McGuire — you literally complete me, you make me want to be a better man, you make me a better man, and even though it’s taken 17 long years, it was worth the wait,” Chris said. Fun fact: They dated in high school and went to Arizona State University together! That’s why “I always knew you were the one,” Kelly said. After wiping away the tears and sealing their commitment with a kiss, it was official! The reception followed underneath a framed tent decorated with hanging lanterns, overflowing centerpieces atop moss-covered wooden boxes, and “mahalo” (thank you) notes at each place setting.
Erica and Barkley were married at the Brooklyn Arts Center at St. Andrews in Wilmington, N.C. on April 17. “We were able to have the choice of having our wedding outside in the courtyard or inside the actual church,” Erica said. “It was an old historic, abandoned church that was remodeled and turned into a venue. I loved the rustic feel. The bare brick with metal beams, the windows, and the concrete embedded with oyster shells.” The bride wore a sweetheart beaded mermaid wedding gown, accessorized with a fingertip-length veil, while the groom wore a three-piece gray suit, accessorized with a black bow tie. Bridesmaids wore short silver satin dresses and carried bouquets of orchids. “My first thought when I walked into the reception, I said to myself, ‘Wow!’ at how pretty and amazing everything looked,” she said. Tables were decorated with custom sage green napkins and gray linens, birdcage centerpieces, and handmade mustaches at each place setting. Fun fact: They were in honor of Erica’s late dad. The newlyweds performed their first dance to “Lady Soul” by The Temptations and exited at the end of the night in a British taxi.
Merri and Peter traveled all the way from New York City for their destination wedding at Phillippi Estate Park in Sarasota, Fla. on October 26. The bride wore a sweetheart drop-waisted wedding gown accented with crystal beading, while the groom wore a black suit and bow tie. Bridesmaids wore mix ‘n’ matched short and long dresses in various shades from blush to beige and champagne to gold. Guests were greeted at the Edson Keith Mansion’s property with a Brooklyn Brewery biergarten welcome area, complete with local brews, lagers, ales, and IPA’s, but were soon thereafter advised to take a seat underneath the moss-draped oak tree as it got closer to sunset. Notice the newlyweds’ reaction once they were announced husband and wife? Priceless. The reception followed inside the sunroom decorated with silver vase centerpieces and wine bottle table numbers and lit with chandeliers. The dessert display featured six Momofuko Milk Bar wedding cakes that were flown in! Yes, that’s right. No one could resist those unique flavors of banana, pretzel, pineapple upside down, and chocolate chip.
Kristena and Ryan were married outside on Grand Newport Plaza followed by a reception inside Celebrations in Costa Mesa, Calif. on November 2. Fun fact: The bride is also our very own Apple Blossom from Bridal Buds! “My husband and I fell in love with it as soon as we toured the grounds,” Kristena said. “I think the one thing about it was that it was unique, and we loved that we could have the ceremony and reception in one place without having our guests travel.” She wore a sweetheart ruffled ball gown, accessorized with a jeweled sash and pair of black Badgley Mischka petal t-strap high heels, while the groom wore a black tuxedo, accessorized with a white tie. A favorite moment? “The first look!” she said. “When I came down the staircase and saw my husband standing there waiting for me, I was so excited. Seeing his expression was worth all the nerves and craziness up to that point.” Following the nuptials, guests were asked to fill out “We Say” advice cards, tables were decorated with black linens and red roses centerpieces, and a candy bar was filled with taffy, gummies, cake pops, and chocolates, which also doubled as favors. “It was the perfect item for them to take home with them after the night,” Kristena said.
Marielle and Ali set the date for their multicultural wedding in Jacksonville, Fla. on October 12. “Having grown up Catholic, it was very important to me that we had a Catholic ceremony,” Marielle said. “Ali is Persian, so it was important to him that we also had a Persian ceremony (Sofreh Aghd). For these reasons, we felt that it was best to have 2 ceremonies to incorporate both of our backgrounds.” Marielle wore a lace bodice a-line wedding gown, accessorized with a pair of “something blue” Badgley Mischka peep-toe heels while Ali wore a classic black tuxedo with a bow tie. The bride’s favorite moment? “Standing in the back of the church feeling excited, happy, and also a little nervous,” she said. “It was crazy to think that after all the months of preparation and waiting, it was finally here.” The groom’s favorite moment? Of course, seeing Marielle walk down the aisle. The historic ballroom inside the Florida Yacht Club was filled with floral arrangements featuring pastel colored peonies, garden roses, white hydrangeas, baby’s breath, and dusty millers. Guests couldn’t resist the scenic views of the St. John River. After dinner and dancing, the newlyweds took off on a boat! Now, that’s a unique send off.
