August 10

Sun Valley, California

From the photographer: “It was a gorgeous and sunny day in August when Cheryl and Mark for the first time were announced as husband and wife. Their beautiful celebration took a place at Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California. Cheryl for her wedding chose an ivory color, beautiful and puffy gown, and a beaded lace jacked as her top. Her shoes were mesh with rhinestone and looked very cute. As for the bouquet, she went for simplicity. It was a beautifully styled bouquet out of white and yellow colored roses.

One of the biggest things Cheryl and Mark were proud of was their big and fun bridal party. They had seven bridesmaids and groomsmen, plus a true handsome ring bearer. Bridesmaids were wearing coral color dresses and had bright yellow color orchid bouquets.  The groom and his groomsmen wore gray color tuxedos with yellow color boutonnieres, looking handsome and stylish. There were a lot of delicate, fun and unexpected moments at the wedding.

A breathtaking incident occurred right before the ceremony when Cheryl’s dad came to give her a blessing. When Cheryl and her dad saw each other they wept in tears and hugged each other shearing their heart feelings. A very unexpected moment happened right before Mark had his right to kiss Cheryl for the first time. He took out a spray from his jacket and sprayed his mouth before kissing Cheryl. Everyone was insanely laughing seeing this to happen.

It was also hilarious when Cheryl and Mark and the rest of the bridal party walked down the aisle. They had these big and funny glasses. They put them on and showed their moves while walking down. At the end of their beautiful celebration, excited like never before, Cheryl and Mark walked down the path while their guests were waving sparklers and giving them blessings. The newlyweds jumped into a red Mustang and took off to their lovely honeymoon.” — Tomas Skaringa of The Big Affair

Q & A with the Bride:

1. What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?

We had looked at so many venues; they all began to run together. I wanted something beautiful and cost-friendly, and the options in Charlottesville were limited. One evening, when we weren’t really looking specifically for a venue, my husband came across The American Hotel, and I fell in love! We went to look at it the following week and booked it that day. The hotel was perfect for our style and personalities and in our budget!

2. Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?

1. My dress – I only tried on dresses once so I knew I had to pick something that day! Once I tried it on, I knew nothing else could top it! It was discontinued and just happened to be my exact size and on clearance! I did not even need alterations!

2. Guest Tree – I saw the idea on Pinterest and fell in love with the idea. We had every guest sign a leaf to place on the tree, and when it was all full, we framed it, and it has became a centerpiece in our home!

3. Grooms Cuff Links – Music is a huge part of my husband’s life, and as special touch, I bought him music note cuff links. It was a small touch but something that make his rented tux more customized to him!

3. Give us the one moment in your wedding day you can’t stop thinking about.

The moment I can’t stop thinking about is the moment when we were saying our vows, and Ryan took out a handkerchief and wiped my tears away.  It was truly a picture of his love for me, and it will forever be a cherished memory of mine.

Q&A with the Bride:

What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?

For the reception venue, we loved the view of the ocean!  It was such a beautiful view, and guests could stroll down to the beach if they wanted to.  The venue also had a wrap-around porch, so guests could be inside or outside.  For the church, we chose the Summerall Chapel at the Citadel because Luke went to college there.  That was something he’d always wanted to do.  We wanted to give our guests the total Charleston experience.  The wedding ceremony was downtown, so they got to see the city.

Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?

  1. I loved my dress!  I also loved that the flowers on the cake matched my dress.
  2. We also loved the large antique windows for the seating assignments.  When we bought them, they were pretty grimy and needed some TLC.  Luke was able to clean them up and have them look nice without taking away the vintage feel.  It was nice to have some homemade and semi-homemade details at the reception.
  3. The assortment of votives and vases on the dinner tables!  I really liked the look of eclectic centerpieces that still had a romantic and formal feel.

If you could offer one piece of advice for other couples planning their wedding, what would it be?

Just have fun on the day of!  Everything is done at that point, and little things might go wrong here and there, but it truly is the best day of your life and you want to enjoy and remember every second!  Also, don’t worry about the little details, no one else will notice if something goes wrong or if something is the wrong color.

What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?

The panoramic view of Virginia Beach is beautiful and there isn’t a better place to see the sunset.

Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?

The flowers, the cake, and my bridesmaids’ earrings

Give us the one moment in your wedding day you can’t stop thinking about.

It all seems like a blur to me. I do remember when Trevor, Bruce’s son who’s five, interrupted the wedding ceremony before I said my vows and told me “Heather, don’t be shy” it was so cute and unexpected, it made me laugh.

Bright Seaside Wedding in Newport, Rhode Island

Our Q&A with the Bride:

What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?

I saw a picture on Castle Hill’s website of their ceremony site that was absolutely gorgeous with a beautiful wooden aisle lined with lanterns leading to an arch covered in flowers with the ocean as a backdrop, and I knew immediately I was looking at my wedding venue!  We recreated that look for my wedding day, and it was just exactly everything I had hoped it would be!

Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?

I loved my dress!  It seems a shame that brides only get to wear their beautiful gowns for one day.

I loved my venue!  We could not have found a more beautiful place for our wedding.

Interestingly, the third thing I would mention was the transportation we set up for our guests.  Ours was a destination wedding.  Everyone was staying at a couple hotels a good distance from the wedding/reception venue, and no one was familiar with Newport.  We thought it was incredibly important to make everything as easy as possible for our family and friends, so we provided shuttles from the hotels to the rehearsal dinner and reception and then back to the hotels again.  Our friends and family were able to fully experience the party without having to worry about finding their way in a new city or having some drinks at the reception.  From what I’ve been told, almost everyone stayed until the last shuttle of the night and the shuttle turned into quite a party bus on the ride back to the hotels!  I love that!

Give us the one moment in your wedding day you can’t stop thinking about.

Walking out and seeing my handsome groom waiting for me.  He looked so emotional and caught up in the moment that I couldn’t take my eyes off him the whole way down the aisle.
