Best in Show: Bridesmaid Dresses Spring 2012

Posted by Jeffra on Nov 04, 2011

While we may have expected a slew of Pippa Middleton look-a-like designs for bridesmaid dresses, designers surprised us with a range of looks from short party dresses to floor-length gowns.  Even the selection of colors on the runway — muted, neutral tones (grey, brown) to bright eye-catching hues (neon green, sunny yellow) – were more fashion-forward than in years past.

Here’s a selection of some of our favorite looks, yes we do love one-shoulder necklines, that we think brides will love and bridesmaids will want to wear again.

Strapless still remains queen of the aisle but gowns with sleeves were quite popular this season.  Whether it is modesty for a religious wedding ceremony (see Coverup Options: Boleros, Capes, Shrugs) or just because you don’t want to bare your arms, brides looking for a little added coverage will find a variety of stylish gowns offering sleeves.

From short capped ones to elbow-length and even wrist-length, sleeves were left unembellished or adorned with lace, beading and embroidery.

Here’s a look at the season’s wedding gowns offering some variation of a sleeve:

Wedding Dress Trends: Lovely in Lace

Posted by Jeffra on Nov 01, 2011

The most traditional wedding gown fabric, designers used lace as the primary fabric and as an accent.  Briefly acknowledging that the source of this inspiration could have come from Kate Middleton’s wedding dress (see The Middleton Effect), lace has historically been associated with the classic bridal look.

Variations of lace from Alencon to Chantilly and beyond were featured in some interesting ways.  Vera Wang showed gowns made of black lace, Ines Di Santo had lace under a transparent dress and Monique Lhuillier accented horsehair bows with lace.

Here’s a small collection of lace gowns from the Spring 2012 bridal market collections:

Wedding Dress Trends: Illusion Necklines

Posted by Jeffra on Oct 31, 2011

‘Translucent is the new white’ was how Reem Acra summed up her design aesthetic for her new collection, but she could have been speaking for almost any designer.

This year illusion necklines and illusion backs were more popular than ever.  The use of tulle was used on its own or embellished with beading or appliques and seen on the most modest to the sexiest gown.

And while lace is its own trend for 2012 (see lace trends) it was also an alternative to tulle as use as an illusion fabric.

Below are some of our favorite wedding gowns with illusion necklines or backs.
