Q&A with the Bride

Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?

  1. The little touches  at our reception: Oyster shells used as name cards at each place setting (the Annapolis Maritime Museum used to be McNasby’s Oyster Factory), handmade sailboats out of scrap sail material and driftwood that were named for favorite places of the couple, and guests signed oars as the guestbook (that now hang in the couple’s apartment in Manhattan)
  2. Photobooth: Our family and friends had a ball snapping pics with our props, which included a Vanderbilt lacrosse helmet (the groom’s), sailor hats and life jackets
  3. The Band: Nick Carver and his group traveled through the night from Nashville, TN to present their country-esque musical stylings and covered popular dance tunes!

If you could offer one piece of advice for other couples planning their wedding, what would it be?

Keep constant communication between you, your families and your vendors. It is crucial to keeping your big day problem-free! We made sure everyone was equipped with a vendor list, contact information on site at the church and reception venue, which included a timeline of events so everyone knew where to be and when – a bit OCD, but it kept everything on schedule!

Give us the one moment in your wedding day you can’t stop thinking about.

At the end of the four-hour reception, guests lit sparklers and lined the dock to the bride’s parent’s boat donning a “Just Married” sign. Looking back at everyone waving as we left by boat thinking “Did that just happen?” definitely stands out as one highlight of the night! The Naval Academy happened to shoot off fireworks that night which lit up the sky on our cruise into Ego Alley. Friends hopped on local water taxis that followed us to Pusser’s for a night cap and a late night dance party – we didn’t want the party to end!
