Q & A with the Bride:

1. What was the one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?

The books. It sounds a little silly, but it was a perfect combination of Heston and I. He loves all kinds of literature, and I love the history and elegance that the stories and the venue represent. It seemed like a fitting place for the next chapter in our own adventure.

2. Which three details from your wedding were your favorites?

1. The cake: I had no idea it would turn out so classic and beautiful. It was even more than I had imagined, and it tied into the décor better than planned.
2. The pieces of Heston and I that were tied into the crossword, programs and table numbers. We made each table themed as one of our favorite books, incorporated a crossword with facts about us, and used a “He says/She says” section in our programs.
3. The love and support of all of our family members and friends.

3. If you could offer one piece of advice to other couples planning their wedding, what would it be?

Pick one thing that is the most important to you and focus on it instead of the million other details. For example, the one special thing for me was having Heston there in person. It may sound obvious, but in reality, he only received his visa three hours before his flight to the U.S., arriving in the country a couple of weeks before the wedding. The last minute decisions on the flowers or décor (we made major adjustments the week of) became very easy. That, and take a honeymoon. I went straight back to work after the wedding, but quickly found that you need some time to relax and enjoy each other’s company after the craziness. Don’t be the wife that falls asleep midway through dinner weeks after the wedding.

4. Give us the one moment from your wedding day that you can’t stop thinking about.

My favorite moment was when we were announced as Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman. All of our family and friends cheered, and it was sheer bliss. At that moment, I felt the weight of Heston’s visa, the long distance relationship and the wedding planning all fall away. I think that even years from now it will be one of those things that I can reflect back on and remember vividly.
