When I moved into the dorms of CSU campus I never thought the man I would meet as my R.A. (Residence Assistant) would be husband one day. After almost 5 years of dating Chris purposed after a lot…okay too much nagging on my part. He saved ALL his pennies for over a year to afford my dream ring. We had both wanted to marry earlier in our dating but my parents thought we were too young.
Chris grew up in a single mother home, paid his way through school and never complained he was always under financial stress. He was an RA and mentor to so many people which helped pay his way through school. He graduated and is aspiring to be a high school teacher. He will be going back to a school in the Fall to get his masters in special education so he can pursue his dreams of working with and mentoring teenagers. I work 3 part time jobs to pay the bills and Chris works full time. Lets just say there isnt much to “save” at the need of each month.
We decided our goal for our wedding was to make it financially freezable for our wedding party. We will be married in my home town in CA and are going to be saving as much money this year as possible to help pay for our parties plane tickets and hotel arrangements instead of saving for a honeymoon. Both Chris and I agree having out friends and family there with us is more important then a vacation. We have both morned the loss of best friends, grandparents and aunts throughout our dating which has made us so much more appreciative of our friends and family we still have with us today. Chris has taught me that no matter what you do, you always need to put other before you and helping our friends financially is our way or putting the people who mean the most to us in front of ourselves. Although we both agreed on this I know Chris would love nothing more then to go on a honeymoon together. He is always mentioning places he wants us to travel “one day”. This trip would be giving us, but more importantly Chris a chance to live his dream of traveling. Please help give me, my family and his mother the gift we can not give him. We would be eternally be grateful for this opportunity but hope if there is a couple in more need that you grant them their wish. Thank you for the chance to win our dream.
