WeddingWire Social Phoenix: A Recap

Hi! I’m Tiffany, a bride-to-be from Phoenix, Arizona, otherwise known as HereComeTheYorks on the WeddingWire Forums. One day I was pursuing the forums and noticed a bunch of ladies talking about the Phoenix area, their venues, bridal shows, etc. I thought, “How can I meet all these women?!” What better way to reach out to them then to start a Phoenix meet up group. I was overwhelmed with the awesome response that I received, so one of the ladies from WeddingWire reached out to me and we immediately started coordinating an event. After coming up with a date, time, location the rest was history. Amazing how a small gesture can turn into such amazing friendships.

Fast forward a couple weeks… Mimosa brunch?! Uhhhhhh, yeah! It was a great, stress-free way to meet new people! About one mimosa in, everyone was having a great time getting to know one another. The grooms had made their own man table to probably avoid talking about wedding stuff. The ladies started a little “who am I” circle and gushed about our wedding venues and the colors we chose and quirky things about wedding wire that we liked. It was amazing to see how many different types of weddings everyone was planning in the same area.

We discovered date twins, color twins, and even venue twins! It was great to be able to compare experiences with brides who were further along in the planning then I am and to compare with my new found date twin about the progress she has made in planning her wedding.

Also I cannot forget to mention all the fun freebies that were donated to the meet up! I was able to raffle off a few prizes donated from Fabletics and JustFab. We also had WeddingWire swag bags with sunglasses and koozies for everyone.

Since the event we have made a local group page where we can post about things we are searching for from wedding cake vendors and photographers to realtors for brides moving to the area! We are actually getting ready to have an impromptu gathering to welcome a new bride and her future husband to the area.  I am so excited to see what WeddingWire Phoenix has in store for future events!

3 Reasons Why You Should Attend a WeddingWire Social

Hi! I’m Jackie, a soon-to-be bride from Columbia, MD. After a couple months of obsessively reading the forums on WeddingWire, I thought it would be fun to meet some of the couples in real life…and the Silver Spring WeddingWire Social was born! We met for dinner and drinks and had such a great time. Now, I know some of you are thinking “hmm… a social sounds like fun, but I don’t know about meeting strangers from the internet…” so I compiled a list of reasons why you should attend (or even host!) a WeddingWire Social:

  • You get to meet amazing people – I exchanged emails with some awesome people at WW and met a bunch of great brides (and two brave grooms!)
  • You get to have a couple hours of wedding talk without anyone thinking you’re crazy – we’re all getting married and we all know how easy it is to obsessive (and talk) about all the little details. Not a single person there thought it was weird that we talked about weddings, and only weddings, for a solid two-and-a-half hours.
  • You get different perspectives on wedding planning. We had one bride that was getting married in October 2015, one getting married in August 2016, and a bunch in the middle. Some were planning destination weddings, some were local, weddings at vineyards, weddings at hotels, guests lists from 40 up to 300, and all price points. It was great hearing about all the differences and similarities between our weddings.

I could go on and on, but for the sake of time, I’ll summarize. Yes, we are strangers on the internet, but by the end of the social, you’ll have amazing new friends who will understand when you freak out that your mom added 20 extra guests to her list, your dress arrived with a stain, or no one seems able to fill out a RSVP correctly. The WW community is amazing online – we’re even better in person!

weddingwire step and repeat

Brews and I Do’s—does it get any better than that? We had a blast hanging out with engaged couples (and their supportive friends!) at Hardywood Craft Brewery  in Richmond, Virginia last week. After mixing and mingling while noshing on free pizza and beer, attendees got all their wedding planning questions answered by WeddingWire Editor Sarah Zlotnick and Julia Define of Down the Aisle Events, LLC. While they were hanging out, guests added any and all wedding planning questions to white boards posted around the room. “Momzillas”, getting ruthless while cutting the guest list . . .  no topic was off-limits!

For engaged couples in Austin, the WeddingWire Sip & Plan event at Caffé Medici at The Austonian was the place to be on Thursday, January 29th! Wedding planner Johnell Huebner of Clearly Classy Events was at this lively event to answer attendees’ tough wedding planning questions.

“It was wonderful to chat about all things wedding planning—from save the dates to DJs, tricks to save money and where to spend,” says Beth Zerdecki, the WeddingWire Austin Community Lead. “It was one extremely informative evening!”

Check out the top five tips our wedding expert Johnell shared at this unique event:

  1. ”Don’t be afraid to ask!  This is your wedding and it should represent you as a couple. Personalize it!”
  2. “[Wedding planning] starts with the venue!  Once you have that secured, all the details and planning may begin.”
  3. “Please, please, please get a day-of coordinator, at a minimum!  Don’t make your mother, aunt or photographer run around for you!”
  4. “How to get through planning your own wedding: plan for a weekend, take some time off, plan for another weekend, then take some time off. Divide your year of planning into the beginning, middle and end.  Focus on your goals for each stage and let it go in between.”
  5. “Most importantly, keep it simple and do your own thing!”
