About the Film:
The director and writer/star of Forgetting Sarah Marshall joins the producer of Bridesmaids for THE FIVE-YEAR ENGAGEMENT. This irreverent comedy looks at what happens when an engaged couple (JASON SEGEL and EMILY BLUNT) keeps getting tripped up on the long walk down the aisle.
Exactly one year after Tom Solomon (Segel) met Violet Barnes (Blunt), he surprised her with a ring. By all accounts, Tom and Violet are destined for their happily ever after, but career plans and comical problems manage to torpedo every “save the date.” Five years later, two people who once dreamed of the perfect day just want to get it over with. Through the humorous trials of discovering who they will become as a couple, Tom and Violet will learn if they have what it takes to survive their five-year engagement.

Congratulations to Elaine W. of San Francisco, CA for winning in our Best Engagement Story contest on Facebook! We loved her story so much we wanted to share it with you.
“It was a beautiful morning in San Francisco on 9/3/11 when I experienced the biggest surprise of my life! I thought I was spending the day with a girlfriend but arrived to find a film crew pointing their cameras on me as she pulled out an Amazing Race envelope, with a Travelocity Gnome. She explained how I’ve been selected to complete the race within 5 hours. Only one person would put me up to this— my boyfriend of 5 1/2 years, Egan. I burst into tears of happiness, already suspecting what my ultimate prize was.
Upon regaining my composure, my “Amazing Proposal Race” began with zip-lining alongside the SF skyline and riding a cable car to the Fairmont, where I was greeted by 3 girlfriends. He arranged for a limo to escort me and the film crew to the other “Road Blocks” around our iconic city; which included Japantown, Ghirardelli Square, Presidio Driving Range, Legion of Honor, and Ocean Beach. At each leg of the race, he timed it perfectly so that a different set of friends/family awaited my arrival, some flying in from LA and NY, even! Not only did he incorporate “The Amazing Race,” he also included “Cash Cab” (what he called “Cash Limo”) trivia questions, “Minute-to-Win-It” mini games, and “Survivor” digging for my buried treasure to find a gorgeous dress for the actual proposal.
After completing the race successfully, the limo drove me to the picturesque AT&T Ballpark, where I found my prize, Egan. He stood wiping his tears away as he saw me approaching. He gave his speech, got on one knee, I said “YES!”, and the onlookers cheered! Everything was perfect! 6 months of planning- Success! The final stop was the afterparty where we all celebrated the night away!”
