This is one of my favorite themed weddings! I first saw these photos in the Fall 2006 issue of Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine and thought it was so creative. Minhee Park and Truman Cho first met when they were in fourth grade and decided to incorporate the schoolhouse theme into their wedding. They even took a traditional school picture with their wedding party!
The guests’ place cards (apples) were placed on this teacher’s desk.
The “lunch bag” favors are a great touch!
Now that you have seen one of my favorites, what are some creative themed weddings that you have seen?
By now, we are all aware of the tragic flooding in the midwest and our hearts certainly go out to all affected by the floodwaters.
Some good news has emerged, however, from this unfortunate situation. Iowa National Guard Specialist Curtis White and his fiance Dannie Ritter, whose wedding plans were tarnished by the devastating floods, were married on a Columbus Junction, Iowa highway last week. The community came together to make their wedding dreams come true in the midst of chaos and cleanup. What a great story!
The bride wore a white t-shirt that sums up her feelings on the big day – it read, “Come hell of high water.”
If your wedding is approaching, I’m sure you’ve felt some stress by now, but don’t let that stress trick you into this thinking it’s cold feet. Wedding stress comes in many forms and what might seem like cold feet right before your wedding, could just be a side effect of any stress you might be under. IDO Sugar offers 4 ways to combat these feelings to help calm you down:
Open up to your fiance and try working through it together.
Brain dump on a friend, you might just need to get something off your chest.
If talking is not an option, try writing it down.
And lastly, just find some alone time with as in a long drive walk or bicycle ride or even a movie by yourself to take your mind off wedding planning.
TLC is looking for couples getting married that think they can dance and would want to dance on camera. This is your opportunity to surprise your guests with a production of a first dance at your wedding. They are looking for couples getting married in May, June, or July in the Southern California area. Send an email to firstdancecasting@gmail.com for more information or to set up an interview.
As you get closer to marriage, you probably have seen that it’s taken some patience to deal with one another through this wedding planning process. It’s no secret relationships take work and here’s a good article from ZenHabits labeled “The Seven Deadly Sins of a Relationship“. It’s a good read and a good reason to take a step back and look at how you live within your relationship. The list of seven things to avoid in your relationship includes things like jealousy, resentment and unrealistic expectations. Have a look and see if you’ve been guilty of any recently.
As I drove into work today, I saw that gas has risen to $3.36 a gallon! It got me thinking about how the costs of anything that needs to be transported (i.e. flowers, food, people) are increasing. And since the wedding industry is filled with small businesses that don’t have the huge budgets of a national company, many may have to pass on some of the cost to their customers: you the bride. I’m not saying all wedding vendors will, but some may have to. So for today, I thought I’d pass on some budget saving ideas to help cut your costs:
Consider having your ceremony and reception at the same location
Do you own hair and makeup
Use online RSVP with your wedding website(hint hint: we offer that free) rather than send RSVP cards
Use fewer flowers and more candles or even buy silk flowers
Make your own centerpieces (there’s lots of great DIY projects out there)
Combine favors and place cards
Only have your cake/cupcakes for dessert (I see so much dessert get wasted anyway)
Only serve beer and wine and limit bar time if need be
And think about getting married during the day or on a sunday
There’s lots of ways to cut costs, but the idea here is be smart with your money right now and be conscious if your guests have to drive or fly a ways to get to your wedding. You can still have a great wedding and spend less.
