Pamela and “Bubba” Mathis had their own fairytale wedding…sort of…

The Gwinnett Daily Post is reporting on a couple’s own idea of a unique wedding: Scattered, smothered, covered and hitched; Couple marries at Waffle House highlighting a couple’s wedding at the Waffle House. A busy schedule and some hick-ups along the way did not keep this couple from getting married on their dream day. On July 4th, the couples anniversary, the bride Pamela Christian woke up and decided she wanted to get married that day no matter what. After trying unsuccessfully to get off work in previous years on Independence Day, the bride got off work in the afternoon. They wasted no time and finally, after 9 years, get Pamela got married to George “Bubba” Mathis in the parking lot of the Waffle House.

The unique wedding was a hit and I think this is a great testament to the couples culture and what they are proud of, “I think it’s pretty redneck myself,” he said, laughing. “But I’m a redneck anyway, so,” says the groom.

If you know of a unique wedding location, leave a comment here with for everyone to enjoy.

Fun Ideas Friday: Beer Cocktails

Posted by Brian on Jun 13, 2008

beercocktails, fresh ideas

Here’s a little something different that I would love your thoughts on: Beer Cocktails.  I’ve been to a few weddings now where a specialty drink has been served during cocktail hour, like mojitos, or a martini bar setup.  But would you consider beer cocktails as a speciality drink during your cocktail reception?

I found this idea on the Hostess with the Mostess blog. Here are the links with receipes for each:

  1. 1. Beer Margarita or, as I like to call them “beer-garitas”) {via Rachael Ray}
  2. 2. Strawberry Panache – strawberries, lemon-lime soda, & beer {via cocktailtimes.com}
  3. 3. Chambeer – 1 part Chambord, 3 parts beer {via hostessblog.com}
  4. 4. Basil Shandy – lemonade & lager, garnished with basil {via cocktailtimes.com}

So what are your thoughts?

So much so that they’re giving away a five-night stay in either hawaii, turks & caicos, the bahamas or the french west indies at an island resort. And because you can’t have a free trip on J.Crew without wearing any J.Crew, they’re also throwing in a beach-ready J.Crew wardrobe for two. Hurry, contest ends June 15th.

Wedding Flowers with a green touch

Posted by Brian on Apr 23, 2008

As you look into options for your wedding flowers, you’ll see very quickly that there are lots of gorgeous and creative options, and many with an expensive price tag. One great way to do flowers in a more earth friendly manor (and cut costs) is to look at using locally grown and/or in season flowers. Flowers that are more difficult obtain mean more in terms in transportation costs to get them to you. Also, if you’re having an outdoor wedding, use any trees or foliage around the area as part of your wedding decor.

Also, when the wedding is over, consider having your guests take them with you or if you used plants that can be planted, consider donating them to a local community center or senior center nearby.

US Magazine is reporting that Beyonce and Jay Z have tied the knot this past Friday night at Jay Z’s Tribeca apartment.  While reps from both are not confirming publicly, US Magazine’s source is quoted as saying “It was amazing — very special, very private, very intimate, Everyone had so much fun. It ended up being a wild party. DJ Cassidy was spinning and people partied until 4:30 a.m.”

If you were planning on using Aloha Airlines for your Hawaiian honeymoon, think again.  The company just announced they are shutting down.  The company will no longer be flying after March 31, 2008.  If you have plane tickets already or want to read more, check out their home page for more details.
