The first travel deal is to Italy.  Those thinking of honeymooning in Italy this year might want to take advantage of deals that include flights and hotels to cities such as Florence, Venice and Rome that start at $1089 (depends on what city you leave from).  Find this at European Destinations.com.

The second deal is for cruise honeymoons to the Bahamas from CruisesOnly.com.  They’ve got ocean view rooms for cruises this fall that start at $269 per person!  It’s only a 4 night cruise, but considering this deal is about 70% off list price, it’s a great way to save considering airlines are jacking up their costs.  (American Airlines is charging $15 for the FIRST bag now)  You can also find find 6-8 night cruises from $409 a person as well at CruisesOnly.com.

J. Crew is really making a push get into your wedding. So much so that they’re giving away a five-night stay in either hawaii, turks & caicos, the bahamas or the french west indies at an island resort. And because you can’t have a free trip on J.Crew without wearing any J.Crew, they’re also throwing in a beach-ready J.Crew wardrobe for two. Hurry, contest ends June 15th.

Today I saw the Atlanta Journal Constitution is reporting that American Airlines is running a sale on fares to the Caribbean, as much as 70% off normal prices.  I’ve noticed airfare has risen along longer routes considerably as the price of oil is out of control. (I’ve seen stats says it’s costing over $15,000 in fuel to fly across the country!)  Knowing every bit helps these days, finding travel deals for your honeymoon is nearly a must for most couples right now so finds like this are great.

Below is a screen shot of another deal to Cancun if you fly American Airlines and stay at one of the two Hyatt’s down there.  The prices are based on a 5 night stay, but $140 per person, per night isn’t that bad right now.  Check out American Airlines for these deals and others.

If you know of other travel deals, post them as comments to help others save on travel costs.

Eco-Friendly Honeymoons

Posted by Brian

While flying a bio-diesel fueled airplane may not be happening in the near future, there are ways to be ‘green’ with your honeymoon. Companies like Elevate Destinations offer trip packages to locations you may not think of when planning your honeymoon, like Africa, South and Central America or even India and New Zealand. While there you can be involved with philanthropic activities in the local region while still getting a great tan and enjoying beach time depending on location.

You can also look into resorts that are going green like the Hotel Eco Paraíso Xixim on the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico that filters waste water to use in their gardens and solar panels to heat the water in their pools.

There’s even a site dedicated to Eco-Tourism.  They offer tips and ideas for traveling and destination choices.  Even MSN has a Green Travel site and Yahoo! has entire property dedicated to being ‘green’.

So when planning your honeymoon travel, if you’re interested in doing something a little ‘green’, finding ideas is getting easier and easier.  Enjoy!

clear-travel-program.gif

By now I’m sure some of you have heard of the Clear program that allows you to be pre-screened and given a biometric pass that speeds up your time spent with security at an airport.  Not all airports have these Clear lanes just yet, but many do and many more are beginning to pop.  The kicker to the whole program is the $128 membership fee that turns many people away.

However, Gadling is reporting that members of Hyatt’s Platinum Rewards and Marriotts Rewards Platinum Elite members can enroll in a free year of Clear.  Hyatt is also running a promo where you can get Hyatt Platinum for free after one stay.  You just have to sign up on Hyatt’s special sign up page, and book a stay on at a Hyatt.

Hyatt Platinum members can sign up with Clear here at their special sign up page.

With Marriott, click here to sign up using your status with Marriott.

If you or your fiance is a regular traveler, this is an easy way to get into the program to possibly use for your honeymoon, especially if you booked an early morning flight the morning after your wedding.

Southwest Airlines is running a contest to help the company come up with new headlines for the Ding! application. The “Creative Your Own DING! Headline” contest is aimed at updating their 3 year old headlines and I guess they figure it’s cheaper to give rewards for creativity than to hire an ad agency, which is good for you. The 2 grand prize packages include a three or four-night cruise on Royal Caribbean for two to your choice of The Bahamas or Mexico. Other prizes include 2 Southwest airline tickets or a $500 Southwest gift card.  So put your creative hat on win and yourself some free travel to save some dollars on your honeymoon or destination wedding travel.

New Passport Requirements

Posted by Brian

Going on a honeymoon after the wedding? Make sure you bring your passport! The State Department recently changed their requirements, which means you need to carry a passport to fly in or out of the country (yes, even Mexico and Canada). See below for the new rules:

Under the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI)

The proposed implementation timeline has two phases:

  • Beginning January 23, 2007, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda will be required to present a valid passport, Air NEXUS card, or U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document, or an Alien Registration Card, Form I-551, if applicable.
  • As early as January 1, 2008, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda by land or sea (including ferries), may be required to present a valid passport or other documents as determined by the Department of Homeland Security. While recent legislative changes permit a later deadline, the Departments of State and Homeland Security are working to meet all requirements as soon as possible. Ample advance notice will be provided to enable the public to obtain passports or passport cards for land/sea entries.

The passport requirement does NOT apply to U.S. citizens traveling to or returning directly from a U.S. territory. U.S. citizens returning directly from a U.S. territory are not considered to have left the United States and do not need to present a passport. U.S. territories include the following: Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Swains Island, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

See the State Department site for more information.
